ATLANTA, May 22, 2014 – The Randstad Engineering Employee Confidence Index, a measure of overall confidence among U.S. engineers, rebounded slightly in the first quarter of 2014, increasing from 62.0 to 63.6. The online survey, conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Randstad Engineering among 116 employed U.S. engineers (ages 18+), showed a high level of confidence in workers’ ability to find a new job and in their own personal job security. In fact, more than eight-in-10 (84%) engineers reported it was not likely they would lose their job in the next 12 months. The survey was conducted in January, February and March of this year.
“The high confidence level among engineers in the market overall is certainly in-line with what we are seeing within our own business,” said Richard Zambacca, President of Randstad Engineering. “Engineers are among the most sought-after talent in the market, across all boards and no matter the discipline. In fact, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the job market looks very promising for 2014 graduates. Employers focused on hiring new engineering grads plan to hire 7.8 percent more this year.”
Furthermore, the Bureau of Labor Statistics has projected tremendous growth for the sector through 2018, with civil engineers expected to add more than 114,600 new positions, industrial engineers adding 85,400 and mechanical engineers increasing by 75,000 new jobs.
Q1 2014 Survey Highlights:

This survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of Randstad Engineering from January 6-8, February 3-5 and March 3-5, 2014 among 3,210 adults ages 18 and older, of which 116 are employed in engineering. This online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated.
