responsibilities:
- Specimen Preparation & Accessioning: Perform routine and non-routine activities for the preparation of surgical specimens for histologic processing, ensuring accurate accessioning, labeling, and patient identification integrity.
- Gross Description: Describe the macroscopic (gross) anatomic features of routine, uncomplicated surgical specimens, accurately documenting all measurements, weight, volume, lesions, markings, and sutures.
- Tissue Dissection: Dissect surgical specimens and meticulously prepare tissues for subsequent histologic processing (fixation, embedding, etc.).
- Quality & Compliance: Adhere strictly to all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards, ensuring compliance with local, federal, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
- Pathologist Interaction: Interact directly with pathologists regarding gross dissection and description activities, particularly for defined specimen types requiring direct supervision.
- Problem Resolution: Proactively identify issues that may adversely affect test performance or result reporting and immediately correct the problems or notify the technical supervisor/manager.
- Cross-Training: May receive training to perform basic Histology functions (e.g., embedding, microtomy, routine/special stains) if all personnel requirements are met.
- Documentation: Complete all required associated paperwork and maintain a clean, well-organized work area.

Required:
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic computer skills
- Experience with lab testing and/or specimen processing
- Medical background, including knowledge of medical terminology
- Warehouse experience, performing routine responsibilities
