responsibilities:
- Complex Synthesis & Operations: Execute multi-disciplined, custom, and established chemical processes, specifically focusing on the synthesis and handling of stable isotope compounds.
- Method Development: Design and improve robust processes and assays for both existing and new product introductions, ensuring minimal experimentation through the application of scientific theory.
- Technical Troubleshooting: Identify limitations in analysis or unit operations and perform advanced troubleshooting using technical knowledge and process data.
- Quality & Documentation: Maintain rigorous records consistent with ISO quality guidelines; write, modify, and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and lead quality audits as required.
- Process Improvement: Independently investigate process inefficiencies and implement sustainable innovations to improve safety, costs, and output.
- Collaboration & Mentorship: Act as a technical resource across departments, training personnel on new instrumentation and providing support for complex problem-solving.
- Lab Stewardship: Manage essential support functions, including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and the safe disposal of chemical waste in a PPE-required environment.
qualifications:
Required:
- Education: B.S. in Chemistry with a minimum of 5 years of independent lab research or industrial experience in synthesizing stable isotopes OR an M.S. in Organic Chemistry with 3+ years of relevant industrial experience.
- Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of synthetic methodology, analytical methods, and modern laboratory technologies.
- Industry Standards: Working knowledge of ISO Quality standards and experience working within strict change control procedures.
- Safety Acumen: Demonstrated ability to work safely with chemicals requiring Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and potential exposure to human blood/blood products.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with external customers and cross-functional teams.
- Advanced Degree: Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
- Specialized Knowledge: Proven track record in process/method development for custom labeled compounds.
- Leadership: Experience serving on site-wide committees (Safety, Quality, or Inventory) and acting as a scientific consultant for junior staff.
