As a Specimen Processing Technician (SPT) I, you will play a critical role in the diagnostic pipeline by ensuring patient samples are accurately prepared for laboratory analysis. Working within our high-volume Specimen Processing Department, you will handle the essential "A-Station" functions-from presorting and data entry to centrifugation and aliquoting. This is a fast-paced, production-oriented position that requires a sharp eye for detail and the ability to maintain high quality standards under tight deadlines. responsibilities:
- Technical Processing: Execute core laboratory support functions including specimen presorting, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting with total accuracy.
- High-Speed Data Entry: Accurately input patient and test information into the laboratory information system, maintaining a high alphanumeric keystroke speed.
- Logistics & Distribution: Manage the internal pickup and delivery of processed specimens to various technical laboratory departments to meet strict completion times.
- Compliance & Research: Learn and apply complex, ever-changing compliance regulations related to test ordering and specimen types to ensure medical necessity and quality standards are met.
- Safety & Environment: Work safely within a biohazard environment, strictly adhering to PPE requirements, safety protocols, and "clean area" 5S standards.
- Operational Flexibility: Support the 24/7 nature of diagnostic testing by remaining flexible for weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as departmental needs evolve.

Required:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Technical Proficiency: Basic computer literacy and a proven data entry background (ability to achieve 6,000+ alphanumeric keystrokes per hour).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit or stand for long periods and work effectively during the 3rd shift (7:00 PM - 3:30 AM).
- Soft Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, effective communication across all staff levels, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing daily requirements.
- Laboratory Experience: Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, hospital setting, or specimen processing environment.
- Medical Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology and an understanding of different specimen types (blood, urine, tissue) related to specific diagnostic tests.
- Production Background: Experience working in a high-volume production environment where performance is measured by productivity and quality metrics.
