responsibilities:
The objective of the position is to produce high quality competitive bids for on-time submittal with accurate cost estimates that facilitate the successful sale and execution of these projects.
JOb Duties and responsibilities:
- Manage a team of proposal engineers.
- Manage department workload and schedules to ensure on-time delivery of bids and associated supporting documentation and information.
- Ensure timely review of the customer's RFQ and distribution of specifications to relevant parties for their input.
- Review contractual terms for consistency with proposal and corporate policies.
- Work in conjunction with Sales and Business Line management to make bid / no-bid decisions and establish bid strategies.
- Work in conjunction with Sales, Engineering, and external vendors as required to ensure a fit-for-purpose product solution is developed.
- Work in conjunction with Sourcing to prepare an accurate overall cost estimate for the project scope including an estimate for project contingency based on Risks & Opportunities and Cost Uncertainty.
- Utilize CRM system (Salesforce) for workload planning, documentation, and reporting of proposal activities and status by maintaining up-to-date and accurate system data.
- Ensure detailed and precise bid documentation is prepared in accordance with company's standard procedures and in compliance with customers' bid requirements, identifying and documenting exceptions and clarifications.
- Support the firm offer approval process to ensure the required Project Stage Gate documentation is completed accurately and on-time.
- Ensure all customer questions are fielded and answered in a timely manner.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings as a hand-off to Project Management and provide complete technical and commercial details including financial review.
- Attend customer meetings as necessary to develop customer solutions and provide technical and commercial support in closing sales.
- Hire, train, support the professional development, and motivate high levels of performance within the team.
- Perform other miscellaneous duties and/or other special projects as required.
- Internal: Sales, Business Line Management, Engineering, Project Management, Sourcing, Procurement, Logistics, Finance, Human Resources, Legal
- External: Customers, Suppliers, Third Party Engineering
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an engineering discipline is required
- 7 years of experience with OEM serving mining or other heavy equipment industries is preferred
- 3 years of experience in Management/Supervisory role is preferred
- Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid passport are required
- Preference will be given to applicants experienced with the following Mining equipment:
- Experience with the following equipment is preferred:
- Pyroprocessing: rotary kilns & dryers, iron ore indurating machines, thermal screws
- Bulk Materials Handling: rail car dumpers & positioners, feeders (apron, wobbler, and belt)
- Grinding: horizontal & vertical mills, high pressure grinding rolls, stirred mills
- Beneficiation: flotation machines & columns, magnetic separators
- Dewatering: pressure filters, tube presses, inclined plate settlers, spiral dewaters
- Classification: screens, hydrocyclones, air classifiers
- Crushing: Gyratory, jaw and cone crushers
- Detailed understanding of mining capital equipment products
- Demonstrated understanding of industry best practices
- Fundamental knowledge of commercial and legal terms and conditions
- Ability to understand engineering drawings
- High degree of precision and attention to detail
- Must have Negotiation skills
- Must gave leadership skills with a bias for action
- Ability to successfully drive change initiatives to realization
- Highly organized and able to multitask and prioritize various activities to ensure timely and accurate compliance with schedule and budget requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate effectively with customers, visitors, co-workers, management, suppliers, contractors, and regulatory inspectors
- Polished customer relations and good interpersonal relations skills
- In-depth knowledge of personal computers, including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PP)
- Highly motivated with the ability to lead a team under stress and meet tight deadlines
- Regularly required to sit; use hands and fingers; reach with hands and arms; and effectively communicate with others. Must be comfortable communicating in shop/plant environments.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, climb and/or balance.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Required use of keyboards, telephones, copiers, fax, visits and movement through shops, and travel experiences.
- Able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, including climbing up and down multiple flights by way of stairs or ladders when working in the field, as well as ability to react to audible warnings when working in the field
- Able to travel frequently, both domestic and international, plus or minus 30%
