A Sign Fabricator performs specialized work in the design and fabrication of traffic and non-traffic signs. Knowledge of the techniques, processes and materials of sign fabrication; considerable knowledge of the use and care of graphic arts tools and equipment; considerable knowledge of Federal and State traffic sign requirements;  ability to visualize lay-outs and to design signs; the ability to utilize a variety of processes in the fabrication of signs; and the ability to utilize mathematics in the proportional reduction and enlargement of sign art work and the ability to work with radiuses. Responsibilities

Designs and lays out a wide variety of traffic signs in accordance with Federal and/or State guidelines;

·  Modifies signs to meet special conditions, and designs special signs for other City agencies and departments;

·  Prepares screen stencils using hand cut or photo stencil films;

·  Silk screens a variety of signs;

·  Makes preliminary preparations for silk screening by selecting, obtaining, cutting and joining wood to build a solid frame, selecting proper screen fabric and mesh, and stretching fabric over frame to required tension;

·  Applies pre-screened faces to properly prepared substrata to produce signs that are needed in large volume;

·  Performs hand lettering on signs as required;

·  Checks work orders;

·  Communicates with supervisor on e-mail works orders;

·  Conducts on site measurements if the sign has to be installed or mounted;
