My client in the Alexandria VA area is seeking a **Professional Standards Officer** for a long-term temporary position. This role reports directly into the office and involves supporting departmental investigative matters. The primary responsibilities for this role include: * Providing professional standards and technical support to supervisors on departmental investigative matters. * Conducting regular audits to ensure Department compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. * Developing and delivering training programs for supervisory personnel focused on administrative investigative and professional standards. * Assisting with Employment Screening & Review, including conducting background checks on prospective employees. * Serving as an Interdepartmental Liaison & Legal Support by maintaining relationships with the City Attorney's Office, HR, and the Office of Human Rights. * Assisting in responding to subpoenas for Department documents or personnel. Responsibilities

Receive and conducts through, fair and impartial investigations into complaints made regarding employee misconduct, violations of Department policy and procedures, and/or state or federal laws.
Plans, organizes, and conducts interviews with complainants, involve employees, and witness; develops an investigative plan and compiles information, evidence, and supporting documents.
Analyze and interpret various types of evidence relevant to administrative inquires.
Coordinates investigations with command staff to determine if any substantiated conduct violated policy.
Prepares investigative reports to communicate findings and recommendations to the Fire Chief or designee based on
investigation.
Report to the Fire Chief or designee on the status of cases under investigation.
Ensures that accurate tracking and documenting administrative investigations is maintained.
Advises Department employees as to the final disposition of Administrative Inquires.
Travels to meet with employees and complainants to gather evidence as necessary.
