We are looking for a PBX Operator for a direct hire opportunity for a client of ours in San Antonio, TX.
The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- High school diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Specialized training in operation of multi-positioned telephone switchboard is preferred.
- Six months as an operator on a multi-position switchboard and familiarity with radio paging systems is required.
- Two years or more of aforementioned experience with experience in a hospital or related health care setting is preferred.
- Six months experience with patient census software is preferred.
- One year experience with Windows Office is preferred.
- Six months experience with MIR3 electronic notification system and/or a physician on-call system is preferred.

responsibilities:
- Assists in operating a multiple position telephone switchboard.
- Handles emergency stat calls and uses desktop computer software to carry out notification of staff, to access inpatient census to assist callers, and to assist in clerical and other incidental activities.
- Performs telecommunication operations and related activities in accordance with Health System policies ensuring prompt, efficient and courteous handling of all calls.
- Provides competent assistance in preparing charges, toll call and other records.
- Maintains good guest and working relationships.
- Assists in the operation of a multiple position switchboard.
- Take incoming calls concerning inpatient information. Uses IDX to pull up patient data, relaying floor, room number, bed number, and phone number; and transfers call to the correct patient; screening calls as necessary to enforce the Admissions Blackout List and Health System policies.
- Places or assists in placing long distance calls; maintains toll call records; enters caller's name, date of call, place called and the amount of charges; prepares charge tickets.
- Relays incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls; handles inquiries; takes and relays messages; gives extension numbers to callers or connects calls to proper extensions for disposition, screening calls as necessary to enforce the Admissions Blackout List and Health System policies.
- Uses personal computer to enter and view Physician on Call data.
- Pages staff and makes announcements over the paging system.
- Answers multiple STAT lines and notifies emergency teams within one minute of notification using the MIR3 notification system, American Messenger Paging, and Direct Dialing.
- Receives and relays requests for telephone service, TV service, nurse call systems, overhead paging systems, network drops, vocera devices, and personal pagers; assists in preparation of on-call rosters and directories and handles requests for pager equipment repair.
- Performs other related duties as may be required or assigned.
- Demonstrates competence to perform assigned and general customer assistance responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of customers encountered.
- Appropriately adapts work and customer assistance methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of customers.
