Formulation Scientist

job summary:
Our client is in the process of growing their US operation and they will be hiring 50 new positions this year. Most of the positions will be in QA / QC and scientific areas. This very important role of Formulation Scientist will be responsible for design, development of new generic drug formulations. The person will also be responsible for formulation optimization by QbD principles, with a view to establish the quality and stability of drug products. A strong familiarity with FDA and ICH regulations is required.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Leading formulation tasks or projects to meet the needs for new liquid or solid dosage form development.
  • Reporting results in clear concise memos
  • Work independently with minimum supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary, international and culturally diverse research team.
  • Routinely solve complex problems through original thinking and application of scientific principles.
Interact with colleagues in other departments to solve problems

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Pharmaceutical formulation development/R&D experience
  • Able to design, plan and conduct designed experiments to understand the impact of inert ingredients on development of new pharmaceutical drug product
  • Understanding of different types of drug dosage forms
  • Aware of analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products like drug release profile, in vitro in vivo correlation and understanding of bioequivalence studies
  • Aware of cGMP practices, ICH guidelines to manufacture quality products.
  • Good mechanical aptitude in operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
  • Aware of working principles and preferred if have hands on experience of Tablet compression
  • Awareness about design of experiments
  • Strong communication skills to present research findings to R&D members.
Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • BS, MS or Ph. D in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Chemistry, Food Science & Technology, Particle Engineering or related field with 1 year of laboratory experience
Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Awareness about quality by design preferred
  • Hands on experience of wurster coating machine, high shear granulator, tablet coating machine, capsule filing machine, packaging machines.
