Associate Director/Senior Scientist

job summary:
We are seeking a Associate Director/Senior Scientist (the "Candidate" or "Individual") to lead ongoing efforts to develop and validate in vitro assays for the characterization of liver toxicity for applications in chemical safety assessment. The successful candidate will have demonstrated intellectual leadership in the field of in vitro hepatotoxicity testing, will be knowledgeable about the most recent progress in the field, and will understand the needs of the chemical risk assessment community concerning hepatotoxicity.

responsibilities:
1. Strategic scientific planning of projects developing in vitro liver models and assays

2. Writing scientific research proposals and estimating budgets for those projects

3. Contributing scientific expertise to collaborative projects within the company

4. Designing cell and molecular biology experiments

5. Instructing and supervising junior scientists in the execution of experiments

6. Analyzing and interpreting experimental results

7. Presenting results within the company, to sponsors and clients, and at scientific conferences

8. Writing research reports for clients and research articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals

9. Developing novel cell-based assays as needed

10. Staying abreast of current scientific literature relevant to job duties

11. Participating in internal committees and group discussions as appropriate

 
qualifications:
  1. PhD in Biology, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Toxicology, Bioinformatics or similar discipline
  2. A minimum of 10 years relevant research experience since obtaining PhD in an academic, government, and/or industry position A record of impactful research in liver physiology, toxicology, disease, and/or in vitro hepatotoxicity assays is required
  3. Experience working with primary hepatocytes in culture is required Ability to independently develop hypotheses, design and execute well-controlled experiments, analyze data, and interpret results is required
  4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverable milestones
  5. Familiarity with protocol and report writing, as well as data presentation in oral and written formats
  6. Familiarity with any of a range of molecular biology techniques (e.g., qRT-PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, etc.) is preferred
  7. Familiarity with various cell-based assays for toxicity (e.g., viability, cytotoxicity, proliferation, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, DNA damage, etc.), as well as general cell-biology assay techniques (e.g., immunocytochemistry, microscopy, flow cytometry) is preferred
