Project Manager

Contract position: IMMEDIATE NEED! Client is looking for 1 Project Managers to help manage a portfolio of T&D & Substation projects in New Orleans. You need a minimum of 7 years of overall engineering & construction substation and/or transmission line experience. The ideal candidate will have prior substation design experience and project management experience. This position will oversee the entire project estimation phase for a portfolio of transmission projects. Per diem provided for candidates not local.
Responsibilities for the Project Manager
  • Your main responsibility will be to manage the development phase of a portfolio of substation & transmission line projects
  • Develop project(s) through business case justification stage and project scope selection stage
  • Review initial technical scope of Transmission and Distribution project(s)
  • Identify Front End Loading (FEL) activities required for the project, such as soil borings, surveying, environmental analysis, ground grid analysis and other activities that may be needed
  • Develop Project Execution Plan (PEP) and be ready to present to high level organizational leaders.
  • Develop initial Project Cost Sheet (PCS), which includes project cash flow
  • Develop Estimate to Scope (ETS), which includes cost of FEL activities in preparation for scoping work order creation
  • Plan, initiate, organize and lead team meeting(s) with multiple disciplines to review, clarify and refine the project scope, gain consensus on the feasibility of the scope, verify FEL activities, and document considerations for cost and scheduling estimates, execution challenges, and resource requirements
  • Create and submit a Class 4 (-30%/+50%) total cost estimate.
  • Develop a Qualitative Risk Analysis (QRA) and an appropriate contingency level for class 5 and class 4 estimates
  • Develop full Level 2 project schedule including target In Service Date (ISD), resource planning and leveling, and project planning milestones through project close-out
  • Consult and assist client with concepts of Transmission and Distribution project design
Requirements for the Project Manager
  • 7+ years of engineering or construction experience related to substation and/or transmission line engineering or EPC projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Electrical or Mechanical engineering or related field from accredited program
  • Previous substation/transmission line project management or construction management experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a Project Manager involved in the initial project development phases on high voltage substation projects is ideal
  • Prior substation design experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are needed
