Refractory Process Engineer

job summary:
The role of the Refractory Process Metallurgist includes but is not limited to: developing practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield, productivity, and costs; developing and optimizing operating procedures; minimizing variability in the production process; coordinating with suppliers to develop steel grades for specialized applications; providing training to operating & maintenance teammates; providing metallurgical assistance to technical service representatives and customers; and utilizing statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities. Moderate travel is expected. This specific role will focus on the refractory material performance in the EAF, ladles, and tundishes.

responsibilities:
  • This specific role will focus on the refractory material performance in the EAF, ladles, and tundishes.
  • Developing practices to improve safety, quality, efficiency, yield, productivity, and costs; Developing and optimizing operating procedures; minimizing variability in the production process
  • Coordinating with suppliers to develop steel grades for specialized applications; providing training to operating & maintenance teammates
  • Providing metallurgical assistance to technical service representatives and customers; and utilizing statistical process control tools to direct continuous improvement activities.
 
qualifications:
  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering, or similar technical field.
  • Aluminum killed steel experience a plus
  • Experience leading refractory processes in steelmaking , EAF, LMF, ladles, BOF
  • Preferences include at least three years of experience in steel manufacturing and/or quality; and knowledge of ISO9001, ISO/TS/IATF 16949, ISO 17025 Quality Management Systems.
