The primary responsibilities of this role include basic engineering analysis and design development for systems related to utility generation and distribution.
Typical systems are steam, hot water, chilled water, feedwater, natural gas, fuel oil, etc., and encompass all power plant systems and auxiliaries. Incorporation and review of engineering documents from vendors such as engine, combustion turbine and steam turbine manufacturers, as well as pump, heat exchanger, valve and related component design is also an integral part of the job.
Typical work products would include Heat Balance Diagrams, Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID's), Plant Arrangements, Piping Drawings and Pipe Support Details, and Equipment Specifications, and engineering tasks would include code review and analysis, energy balance calculations, pipe stress analysis per ASME Piping Codes, pipe and duct sizing, exhaust stack sizing and draft calculations, analysis of hydraulic systems (head loss, pump sizing and selection, etc.), and analysis of overall plant performance.
