Engineering Technician

job summary:
An Engineering Technician is needed for a company that brings together packaging materials, equipment, services, and automation to provide essential protection for products in the Grand Island, NY area. Candidate should have a good understanding of electrical engineering concepts including AC and DC power distribution for small industrial systems, electrical control systems (PLC wiring, network and interface connections). Excellent hands-on electrical system assembly capability for large and small systems including layout, wiring and cabling of electrical panels. Associates or Bachelor degree in Electronics/Electrical Technology is preferred.

responsibilities:
  • It is expected that technical assistance and time for learning some tasks may be necessary
  • Work as member of a development team to design products in a very fast-paced environment
  • Works with multiple different technical disciplines (physical and chemical sciences, electrical, mechanical and software engineering) and technical resources (assembly, service technicians, and machinists) to assist with meeting the overall product development goals
  • Capable of working with engineers and designers to correct documentation, enhance designs and improve manufacturability
  • Assignments may include involvement in the conception of new products, and development and enhancements to products, and problem investigation for current products.
  • Expected to assist with all product development phases o Initial conception and specification
  • Assembly, setup, completion, and recording of results of feasibility tests of electrical components and systems
  • Commercial component searches and comparisons
Specification review

Design

  • Component design
  • Testing of component design options with fixtures
  • Subsystem prototype build and test
  • Component availability
Documentation review

  • Initial product build
  • Component order requests
  • Hands-on build and assembly
  • Documentation validation
Product Validation

  • Testing
  • Implement required updates
Product installation

  • Support new installation with local, in-house testing
  • Recording setup and operating procedures
  • Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

  • It is expected that technical direction and assistance may be required for some assignments
  • Able to work safely in an environment where new products are assembled and tested
  • Good understanding of electrical engineering concepts including AC and DC power distribution for small industrial systems, electrical control systems (PLC wiring, network and interface connections)
  • Excellent hands-on electrical system assembly capability for large and small systems including layout, wiring and cabling of electrical panels
  • Able to work with engineers and designers to correct documentation, enhance designs and improve manufacturability
  • Ability to read wiring schematics to verify parts and assembly drawings is required
  • Capable of marking drawings for updates when errors are found
  • Comfortable selecting and using typical shop hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.)
  • Basic electrical assembly capability including crimping pins for connectors and soldering
  • Ability to choose appropriate measurement instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes and other typical electrical measurement tools) to collect reliable measurements and record results is required
  • Ability to carry out testing of electrically controlled machinery and reporting results scientifically
  • Capable of assisting in creating and verifying bills of materials
Education/Experience:

  • Associates or Bachelor degree in Electronics/Electrical Technology or related discipline or demonstrated ability to meet the job requirements through a comparable number of years of applicable work experience.
