Immediate hire opportunity in LaVergne TN. Randstad Engineering seeks a Senior Controls Engineer for a direct hire with our Middle Tennessee client. The ideal candidate will have 20+ years of experience in machining including designing, programming, documenting, testing, debugging and servicing control systems. Team lead experience is a plus along with the ability to manage multiple project schedules at one and allocate department resources to meet those project timelines. This is a customer facing role where you will have the opportunity to meet with companies to provide production design, installation and service support of custom built machinery.

The Senior Controls Engineer will design and program control systems of assigned machine design projects. Responsibilities of the Senior Controls Engineer include adhering to project guidelines as follows: maintain project schedules, design standards, customer specifications, quote requirements, software standards and documentation. This team lead role requires confidence and organization in managing the department project schedule and allocating team resources to meet project timelines.

As part of a team that will work closely with customers and internal team members, this role requires the ability to communicate with all levels of key stakeholders (internal and external) and all levels of understanding with controls/operation processes. Excellent documentation is critical to this role. Key responsibilities of the Senior Controls Engineer are:

  • Generate electrical/pneumatic schematics and BOM's in compliance with established company standards, applicable regulatory codes
  • Create and document control system software programs using structured programming techniques for PLCs, HMIs, PCs and Robots as required per project
  • Develop approved drawing, programming and design standards for the department
  • Teach technical training classes to increase the team's technical knowledge, skills
  • Participate in design and review meetings
  • Responsible for reviewing assigned project schedule, allocating team resources to ensure department targets are met, timely communication to leadership with support needed and/or project timeline adjustments
  • Review customer control systems specifications and design premises to ensure compliance
  • Recommend exceptions and estimate cost for deviation using previous experience
  • Understand and follow proper wiring methods
  • Write portions of the machine operation manual, specifically, the Controls and Operation sections
  • Support installation, test and debug machines and systems (both at manufacturing facility and at client locations)
  • Responsible for updating all drawings after a job is complete
  • Provide support for any control system issue or concern with customer
  • Travel as required for client meetings, installation and service
  • Assist with quotations including pricing, write-ups, concept drawings, and schedules
