Electrical CAD Designer

The Electrical CAD Designer I is our entry level designer position and will work under the direction of the Engineering Manager developing system designs and creating construction documents for Electrical projects using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, E-Plan or other selected electrical design applications as well as the extensive use of Microsoft Excel. The position requires a basic understanding of drafting techniques, electrical codes, UL 508A and engineering terminology. Develops innovative solutions and is knowledgeable of construction processes. Abstract thinking and ability to complete basic mathematical calculations and problem solving is a desirable characteristic as well as a willingness to learn.


Develops complete Electrical drawing designs using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, E-Plan or other selected electrical design applications to create single power diagrams, schematics, interconnect diagrams, panel layouts, bill of materials, & P&IDs. • Develops conduit and cable tray layouts, conduit and cable schedules, performs conduit and cable tray fill calculations, and generates cable and wire interconnection reports. • Creates drawings for Electrical enclosures, equipment, instruments, and installations details. • Creates and revises P&ID’s and Hazardous area classification drawings • Plans, details, schedules work and final delivery of drawings • Outlines, sets up, organizes, and maintains project drawings according to applicable standards • Performs site visits to create sketches, red lines, and gather information for as built • Performs design coordination, drawings reviews, and create mark ups for drafters • Trains people inside his/her discipline and writes procedures and reports • Completes Electrical and mechanical layouts, routings of harnesses, and schematics of a complex nature. • Designs mechanical components such as brackets, mounting structures, body attachments, etc. • Completes mechanical layouts, routings, and schematics to ASME standards. • Creates parametric solid models, 2D drawings, component tolerance stackups, and component packaging in a 3D solid model environment.



Using design and drafting tools, this position is responsible for the layouts, component part drawings, assembly’s drawings, electrical schematics, submittal development, work instructions, developing, maintaining and policing CAD standards and maintaining engineering quality documents. The Electrical CAD Designer I is expected to operate with some level of direct supervision under the direction of Engineer Manager, senior CAD designers or designated EG management personnel while taking design direction from Design Engineers and Sales Account Managers. Assignments are broad in variety and scope.
