We are a busy, 75 year-old manufacturing company in Freeport looking for a manual machinist to operate tooling for the creation and modification of aluminum, cast iron and steel outdoor decorative lighting parts in our facility, especially but not limited to lathe and milling operation experience. The machinist will also be responsible for rolling, bending and forming sheet metal and tube stock, drilling and tapping holes, threading pipe, as well as other fabricating needs.
??? Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information in order to determine product dimensions and tolerances, as well as methods and sequences of operation needed to fabricate products.
??? Select the appropriate tools, machines and material to be used in preparation of machinery work.
??? Set up, adjust and operate basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform machining operations, including lathes and milling machines.
??? Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and material in machines.
??? Detect malfunctions in machine operations such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
??? Monitor and adjust the feed and speed of machines during the machining process to optimize tool life, part finish and production time.
??? Run production lots, communicate with co-workers regarding productions runs, and maintain safe, organized and clean work environment.
??? Creation of work fixtures and jigs for holding material pieces, either for machining or assembly.
??? Maintain machinery tools and equipment including regular cleaning, routine service, troubleshooting and repair.
??? General housekeeping, safety and maintenance as well as other projects/duties will be assigned by supervisor during machining downtime.
Working hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
-Needs to have some working knowledge for operating Bridgeport vertical mill, lathe, break, shear, etc., experience milling, turning, making jigs, metal fabrication, etc.
??? Ability to produce parts to tolerance specification.
??? Fabrication and machine shop proficiency and safety.
??? Skilled in the use of associated shop equipment such as sheet metal shear, break, roll former, hydraulic bender, pipe threader, hydraulic punch press, band saw, chop saw, drill press and tapping attachment.
??? Be able to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as calipers, tape measures and rulers.
??? Ability to lay out, measure and mark metal stock for cutting.
??? Excellent attention to detail/accuracy and organizational skills.
??? Problem-solving, prioritization and multi-tasking skills are required.
??? Communication skills, written and verbal.
