Java Architect

job summary:
What you'll do on a typical day:

  • Serve as architect and software developer for applications on a variety of platforms
  • Actively participate in all phases of system development lifecycle
  • Make recommendations based on best practices, experience and requirements
  • Analyze and convert business and system requirements into detailed system design and technical specifications; convert system designs and technical specifications into program code
  • Perform quality assurance testing of developed applications to ensure changes will serve the customer requirements in production
  • Mentor others on object technology and advanced programming topics as needed
  • Comply with project standards and processes related to producing quality software products
  • Provide management team with accurate effort status on assigned deliverables
  • Debug and troubleshoot existing program code and correct errors as required
  • Provide level-2 support to resolve systems-related issues; includes on-call support as required by team's scheduled rotation

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
  • 4 or more years of experience architecting and developing scalable, distributed or web-based applications
  • Knowledge in several of the following areas: Unix, NT, Visual Basic, Java, Oracle, SQL Server, Visual Studio, CVS, VB, ASP, .NET
  • Experience and understanding of component-based software, object-oriented methods, internet technologies, client/server architectures, relational databases, structured development, test methodologies and data warehousing
  • Planning, communication, troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment with tight deadlines
  • Experience with software development projects and formal project management methodologies
