Project Manager

Prior experience in an Industrial setting and PMP preferred. Bachelor's degree in business, engineering or equivalent related work experience

SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES

- Ten years of project management experience, industrial settings preferred

- Strong interpersonal, planning, leadership, decision-making and communication skills

- PMP designation preferred

- Working knowledge of MS Office or equivalent productivity suites

- Ability to travel for extended periods

The Project Manager (PM) has overall responsibility for the successful initiation, planning, execution, and closure of a Safety Services project. Upon receiving the Project Implementation Plan, the Project Manager works closely with the Risk Reduction Engineering team to ensure that the vision and costs are in line throughout the project. Interpersonal skills, leadership and the ability to work in a collaborative manner across disciplines are the main characteristics of a successful project manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning/Organization

  • When a Purchase Order (contract) is received from the customer, the Business Development Manager introduces the Project Manager to the customer's designated representative to initiate the project. A site visit is scheduled to review and finalize the implementation plan and verify conditions and schedules with the customer. The PM determines the requirements and schedules for the electrical and mechanical engineering subcontractors.
  • The PM procures subcontractors for the projects through competitive bidding and or negotiated work. The PM awards subcontracts and purchasing of materials not covered under subcontracts.
  • The PM ensures that the Scope of Work documents are organized, clear and concise.
  • Coordinates accommodations, hotels, airfare, car rental, etc.
  • Manages the shipment of tools, equipment and material.
  • Coordinates plant access, identifies machine locations, designated work area/staging area (with power/connections), breakrooms, smoking areas and restrooms.
  • Compliance with LOTO procedures, site Specific Safety Training and PPE requirements.
  • Secures site contact information, plant hours, work schedule, emergency contact procedures.
  • Develops and manages construction schedules, identifying the amount of down time required for each machine, prior to arriving onsite. Works with the designated customer representative to put the machines into a schedule (sequence), manages and updates the schedule throughout the project.
Leadership/Supervision/Communication

  • The PM is the point person interfacing with the designated customer representative, plant personnel, SSE safety consultants, etc.
  • Manages and initiates meetings, conducts a Kick Off /Pre-Construction Meeting and Progress Meetings throughout the project, provides timely meeting minutes. Corresponds in a timely and effective manner keeping the customer, company owner, SSE safety consultants and SSE administration informed and up to date on the project status.
  • Supervises employees and subcontractors, ensures that the project supervisor or foreman conducts daily meeting with the work crew to discuss, pre-task planning, material needs, previous days' progress, receives previous days' time logs, provides direction with measurable outcomes to be reviewed the following day.
Financial/Quality Control/Project Closure

  • Contract management, responsible for all project costs, protects margins, manages risks, manages change orders.
  • Provides timely invoicing; immediate upon receipt of a PO (30% down). Prompt progress billings, monthly at minimum, invoicing on a Schedule of Values Basis (% complete).
  • Procurement of material, receiving/packing slips, approval of invoices and payments.
  • Quality Control, continually monitors the quality of work adjusting as needed in a timely manner, ensures standards in the field, i.e. standardized color of paint, works with designers for consistency in products from machine to machine and site to site.
  • Project close, machine sign off procedure and documentation.
  • Prompt completion of any punch list items.
  • Prompt final billing.
