Network Admin/ Engineer

job summary:
Title: Network Admin/ Engineer

Location: Bethesda, MD

Duration: 6-8 months contract with possible extension

Essential Functions:

  • This position will work closely with Company Customer Service Desk to support Tier 1 real time collaboration.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new technology is essential, as is, the ability to think out problems and solutions logically.
  • Monitors automated system alerts and end users incident and outage reporting. Troubleshoots and resolves network problems. Escalates to internal engineering resources to aid in trouble resolution, as needed. Ensures service provider ticket creation and drives to resolution. Ensures escalations are handled in a professional, consistent and deliberate manner.
  • May work under the guidance of more senior level staff or managers and perform other duties as required.
  • This position requires a rotating on-call component for 24/7 availability.
  • Strong customer service skills; answering client and employee calls; prompt return and follow up to all interactions; prompt response to requests for information.
  • Act as triage point for escalated calls from level 1.
  • Monitor incoming support center queue for level 2 tasks.
Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment :

  • Knowledge of software development methodologies, tools and processes, including source code control, application development tools and techniques, database design, programming languages, and component integration.
  • Routing and switching experience with enterprise class network devices.
  • Knowledge in working with Cisco IOS routers and Cisco switches.
  • Knowledge with networking hardware and software components as well as architectures. Experience working on multi-level and layered network systems is an advantage.
  • Excellent collaboration and communications (verbal and written) skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as ability to function as a successful and participating team member.
  • Detail oriented and able to work on multiple tasks at one time.
  • May be required to provide on-the-job training to new department staff members.
