Sustaining Engineer

job summary:
Our client is seeking an Sustaining Engineer for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity in Roseville, CA.

The Sustaining Engineer will enhance the profitability of the company as part of an Engineering team supporting all technical aspects of our customer's products and related repair processes. The Sustaining Engineer will create value by applying fundamental Engineering discipline to the understanding of our customer's product(s), and innovating original and effective process solutions for diagnostics and repair. Once established, these practices are to be maintained, refreshed and further refined as our customers and their requirements continue to grow and change.

Responsibilities/Duties:

- Responsible for the development and execution of software that automates the testing of networking devices such as: Catalyst Switches, Nexus Switches, and Aironet Access Points.

- Analyzes and understands customer products and product failure modes and mechanisms, and develop methods for effective failure detection.

- Designs and conducts effective experiments, organizes, analyzes, and presents data clearly with recommendations.

- Analyzes system, product, or process failures. Understands and fully debugs most problems.

- Recommends and implements appropriate corrective actions.

- Functions with autonomy and establishes unique expertise in a new area of opportunity.

- Owns projects or parts of projects from start to finish.

- Plans project element timelines with critical checkpoints

- Works under the guidance and direction of more senior team members.

- Provides guidance to junior Engineers.

- Communicates concepts and status to other team members and to engineering management.

- Interacts comfortably with customers and OEMs on specific issues with existing projects.

Education/ Work Experience:

- Possess a BS degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or related field, or two years as an Associate Engineer, or equivalent Engineering experience in the field.

- Detailed understanding of objective programming language concepts

- Strong understanding of computer networking protocols and hardware.

- Experience working with any flavor of Linux - RedHat or Fedora preferred.

- CCNA or other Cisco Certification is preferred.
