Our client is looking for a SQL DBA in the Sacramento area. This is a permanent opportunity.

Summary

Responsible for architecture, planning, developing, managing and implementing data storage needs within current and future products of client. Interfaces with Corporate, Operations and technical teams to develop and achieve product objectives and resolve issues promptly. Primarily responsible for maintaining the integrity of databases, reviewing and implementing designs/data models, resolving performance issues and establishing best practices. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties may also be assigned:

· Identifies database requirements by interviewing customers; analyzing department applications, programming, and operations; evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.

· Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities, database security, data back-up, and recovery specifications.

· Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques; coordinating installation requirements.

· Determine the data flow path through multiple stages.

· Maintains database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters; implementing new releases; completing maintenance requirements; evaluating computer operating systems and hardware products.

· Prepares users by conducting training; providing information; resolving problems.

· Supports database functions by designing and coding utilities.

· Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.

· Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of the-art practices; participating in professional societies.

· Contributes to development team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

· Responsible for providing day-to-day support of data in a mission-critical 24x7 production environment

· Control maintenance activities such as creating timely backups, editing indexes, and performing installations and upgrades.

· Design in-house data retrieval and data management systems to meet users' needs.

· Conduct feasibility studies, evaluates costs, analyzes user needs, designs data processing systems or sub-systems, programs the systems or sub-systems, develops testing criteria and establishes documentation to support the new system.

· Coordinate database planning and design of the basic database structure including but not limited to data architectures, relational databases, data warehouses and multidimensional databases.

· Analyze, troubleshoot and debug issues related to company software applications. Confer with and advise customer on the use of applications. Create workaround procedures when standard procedures have failed.

· Identify and address issues of data migration including validation, clean-up and mapping.

· Develop strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery and implementation of databases

· Monitor for and advice on patches / updates from applicable database vendors, propose upgrades as appropriate.

· Monitor database events and proactively optimize system performance on customer systems.

· Work with the production support teams to automate proactive procedures where possible, and to promote rapid response to known issues.

· Work with development group to provide proper backup and disaster recovery procedures.

· Work in conjunction with other application development, and business groups to understand functionality, scalability, performance, security, and integration requirements from the database perspective.

· Mentor and train other team members; be a resource to other departments, individuals and resources within the company.

· Participate in designing and implementing the data side of disaster recovery plans within existing and future production deployment environments.

· Utilize project management methodologies, systems and tools to effectively direct all project phases - Define/Initiate, Plan, Execute, Monitor and Close

· Maintain strategic focus to ensure balance between immediate project needs and long term company goals

· Provide feedback regarding employee performance on a project team to respective functional managers

· Recommend new processes as needed to improve quality, cost, or on-time delivery

· Identify project scope changes and prepare communications to notify stakeholders

· Establish and maintain relationships with key customer stakeholders on each project maintaining clear and regular communication regarding project progress, budget, and changes to scope; continually seek to capitalize on opportunities to increase customer satisfaction

· Supports operational needs, as needed

· Provide documentation, knowledge base entries and FAQs to assist in continuous improvement of department resources.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; 5 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Industry certifications strongly preferred. Previous experience in managing projects within an Agile software development environment preferred. Strong knowledge of object oriented development practices with an emphasis in the .NET technology stack. Extensive knowledge of relational databases from schema design to writing complex, optimized queries and familiarity with NoSQL databases is a plus. Understanding and expertise in design patterns, version control systems, N-tier application architecture, LINQ, SQL Server Integration Services, ASP.NET, MVC. Understanding of data dictionaries and the value of data architecture design patterns. Advanced knowledge of operating systems. Working knowledge of open source and proprietary monitoring and log parsing tools such as Nagios, Sensu, Icinga, Ganglia, Splunk, or logstash.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a detailed knowledge of Database architecture, design, and software development lifecycle, Product Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Experience with integrating data from multiple systems into single application or platform strongly preferred. Advanced knowledge of operating systems, database software and design. Highly proficient in data analysis, data migration tools, data modelling, data integration, data warehousing, database design and database concepts such as stored procedures, query plans, and parallel processing. Proficient in structured query language (SQL) and basic DML operations. Strong Understanding of database concepts such as normalization, indexing and ETL, de-normalization, and delta logic.
