Application Development Manager

job summary:
The Manager of Application Development will define system solutions, mentor employees, lead development teams, and share the responsibility for the technical direction of the Physical Auction suite of applications. They will play an essential role in allowing company's applications to grow, scale, and remain highly available. Individual will work closely with Program & Product Management, and many other teams within company to ensure high quality and feature-rich applications.

COMPANY: Company provides customers a whole car auction solution. They serve two main client types: institutional customers (vehicle manufactures, banks, insurance companies) and dealers.

  • Company is developing the next generation of software to run our physical auction operations while continuing to enhance the installed base. This software drives over 80 auction locations across North America and over 1.5 billion dollars in revenue each year. We are employing the latest cloud infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and best practices to build world-class software.

TECHNOLOGY (In no particular order)

NET , C#, MS Azure, MS SQL, Entity framework, Dapper, LINQ, Angular 2-7, Domain driven design concepts (DDD), Microservice Architecture

MUST HAVE SKILLS

  1. Software Management experience is a requirement (at least 4 years). Most of the management experience will be within some type of agile environment. Experience with SaaS Product development is a plus.
  2. You will need to be hands-on technically, comfortable reviewing and writing code. We don't need you to be the strongest or most productive engineer on the team but your onboarding will involve at least a month working as an engineer on one of our products.
  3. Have deep knowledge of a high-level programming language, ideally .NET, Angular, and Azure. Great people are effective and learn what we use quickly. Our ideal is for every team to be comfortable working across the full stack, delivering new features and capabilities from start to finish.
  4. Experience, writing high quality object oriented code
  5. Agile/Scrum processes
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS (NONE OF THESE ARE DEALBREAKERS)

  1. Azure Cloud Development and Deployment, PaaS, .NET Stack
  2. Excellent Debugging and troubleshooting skills
  3. Experience with high availability and scalable systems
  4. Continuous Integration and Delivery
  5. DevOps (Git source code management, automated build and release, etc.)
  6. Automated Testing (Unit, Integration, Functional)
  7. Demonstrated hustle and passion as it relates to delivery impactful software solutions

  2. A team player that can work well in a collaborative, team-oriented environment, work hard and have fun
  3. Ability to prioritize, be flexible and handle multiple projects with varying deadlines in a multi-task environment

  2. Drive, create, and improve operational excellence, quality, security and privacy initiatives within your teams and the entire engineering organization
  3. Support an ambitious group of engineers in their career goals. Work with our people operation leadership to maintain our high performance and high morale
  4. Care about agility as much you care for scalability and availability. Keep projects short and tightly scoped
  5. Spend twenty-five percent of your time developing software solutions for the team
  6. Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions and expression those solutions at a task level.
  7. Understand business context to decisions made within and across groups
  8. Respond promptly and professionally to customer escalations
  9. Provide guidance, direction, and mentorship to employees
  10. Evaluate employee performance, set expectations and goals for team and individual team members, recruit and train team members
INTERVIEW PROCESS

  1. Phone screen with HM (Dr. of Software Engineering at Company)
  2. On-site interview that is a half day and broken into 3-4 1 hour interviews with different team members/leadership. They strive to get interviews conducted within 5 days.
