Technical Writer III

job summary:
Position Description

  • As a technical writer in the Developer Relations team, you'll contribute to externally-facing web sites that educate developers about new tools and technologies for building modern web and mobile apps.
  • You'll work with other technical writers, product managers, software engineers, sales and marketing teams, to determine the developer features that need documentation.
  • You'll create documentation plans, develop API guides, and write sample code.
  • The role involves working on the command line and with developer tools, to create and organise documentation files.
  • You'll also spend time resolving issues with existing documentation to keep it up to date.
  • You're an experienced technical communicator with experience in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Objective-C or Swift.
  • You have strong skills in HTML and an acquaintance with CSS.
  • You write clear, fluent, and grammatical English, and you work independently to bring deliverables to our customers on time.

Mandatory

  • At least 5 years' experience as a technical writer in the software development industry.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of developer products, such as APIs, SDKs and software libraries.
  • The ability to write, review and document code that's written in one or more programming languages such Java, JavaScript, Objective-C or Swift. Strong skills in HTML, Markdown, or other markup languages, and an understanding of CSS.
  • The ability to write clear, fluent, and grammatical English. Ability to work on the command line (UNIX or OS X).
Desired

  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for software development.
  • For example, you may be able to show scripts or apps that you have created, or contributions you've made to open source libraries or documentation, or blog posts you've written about code and software development.
  • An acquaintance with version control systems such as Git or Perforce.
