System Administrator

job summary:
Summary/Objective

The System Administrator II (SA) is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, security and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. This individual participates in technical research to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards.

Essential Functions

  • Engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs;
  • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and security/project/operational requirements;
  • Install and configure systems supporting infrastructure applications or business applications;
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures;
  • Contribute to and maintain system standards;
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale;
  • Configure, upgrade, support, maintain and secure the organization's servers (physical and virtual), firewalls, applications, network infrastructure, and external cloud applications;
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources (physical and virtual), systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Ensure the timely escalation of any alarmed problems;
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions;
  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or cold storage system and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary;
  • Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary;
  • Provide Tier II, and III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues;
  • Administer and fine tune DLP and IDS systems;
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinates and communicates with impacted constituencies;
  • Ensure availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical resources;
  • Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures;
  • Stay informed on current state of the applications and systems by monitoring vendor communications, support forums, user groups, etc.;
  • Identify departmental needs and make suggestions regarding technical direction;
  • Researche, evaluate, and recommend new technology or methods of daily operational activities of the network operations environment to improve service through productivity gains or expense reductions;
  • Support internal customers such as Help Desk and end users in problem analysis and consultation on changes;
  • Oversee back-up of data and applications to ensure system integrity and restart capability in event of system failure. Develop, maintain and implement disaster recovery procedures;
  • Provide on call coverage 24/7, as scheduled;
  • Participate in special projects & performs other duties as assigned. Provide effective backup support for fellow team members/team leader;
  • Participate in team assignments and special project responsibilities and ensure commitments are fulfilled;
  • Adhere to AccessLex Institute's company policies and Information Technology department policies;
  • Document processes and procedures;
  • Accountable for following Security Breach company policy, as well as safeguard practices in the department; and;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience

Education

  • BS in Computer Science preferred or High School graduate possessing equivalent System Administration experience;
  • Industry (server / network / security) certifications preferred.
Knowledge and Experience

  • 3 - 4+ years full-time experience in professional systems administration;
  • 2+ years desktop PC/Mac support and maintenance (Win 7 - 10);
  • Operational experience with VMware ESX 5.0 or above;
  • Adept at using network tools to capture / trace packets;
  • Server OS Administration - Windows Server 2008 - 2016;
  • Microsoft Azure;
  • TCP/IP networking;
  • Professional firewall experience (configuration and administration);
  • Citrix or equivalent remote access software;
  • Exchange or Office 365 mailbox management;
  • Server Building, configuring and scoping;
  • VPN configuration;
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills;
