job summary:
SUMMARY:

The Applications Developer will help develop applications to solve business problems and to provide enhanced functionality for faculty, staff, and students. Also, he or she will assist with ensuring reliability of existing applications through creating and using automated testing. The Applications Developer will participate in the entire application development life cycle including some application deployment and web server configuration.

REQUIREMENTS/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience

A minimum of one year of web-oriented programming experience.

Education

Bachelor's degree

Skills:

  • Object-oriented programming; PHP, specifically Laravel, experience a plus
  • Javascript, CSS, and HTML expertise
  • Application-level Linux experience (e.g. migrating applications)
  • Database querying; MySQL and Oracle experience a plus
  • Creating and maintaining automated application tests
Abilities: Manual dexterity needed for typing and data entry

  • Plan, code, test, debug, implement, maintain, and document web-based applications with an emphasis on secure, standards-based programming methods
  • Create and maintain automated application tests (e.g. with selenium server)
  • Configure and install PHP and httpd on Linux (preferrably CentOS)
  • Install, secure, and update web software (e.g. WordPress)
  • Publish/update UIndy web content (text, images, etc.)
  • Help serve as a point-person for staff and end-user problems related to company's web pages
  • Keep up-to-date with current and emerging development best practices and research new technologies
  • Regularly communicate with all interested parties to provide and receive updates regarding development, troubleshooting, timelines, etc.
  • Develop and support mobile applications to meet institutional goals, as need arises.
  • Participates in departmental, divisional, or University-wide projects and programs when asked by supervisors.
  • Attends training and professional development, as necessary; some travel may be required.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.


HOURS:

8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
