LEAN Engineer- Production Assembly/Test Engineer

LEAN Engineer- Production Assembly/Test Engineer

  • The Production Assembly & Test (A&T) engineer will find ways to prevent waste and inefficiency in production processes. They will design efficient systems that integrate workers, information, machines, energy and materials to make products or provide services. The A&T engineer will also design equipment to coordinate production planning to minimize production issues and costs while ensuring products meet quality standards. They will design, develop and maintain manufacturing routes to maximize effectiveness, efficiency and space. The A&T engineer will also make sure the company complies with all industry standards for safety while meeting design standards and guidelines. They will also work in a support role as needed on less complex projects as required.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review production information to understand methods and activities in manufacturing and services. This includes, but is not limited to, production schedules, process flows and engineering specifications.
  • Design control systems to minimize and resolve production issues and project costs.
  • Create systems and plan production to ensure all products meet quality control standards.
  • Develop standards for production and design by working with clients and management Responsible for process (e.g. throughput time, work in process inventory, labor hrs/instrument, rework hrs., etc.) performance improvement of the products, product lines and/or central processing areas assigned (e.g. Instrument cell, major sub assembly cells, shared resources (e.g. clean room, heat treat, paint, etc.)
  • Responsible for designing, developing and implementing cell level operating metrics that enable daily performance tracking, daily management and daily improvement in each of the areas assigned.
  • Responsible for leading and coaching shop floor managers, supervisors and lead persons in the process of improving performance.
  • Responsible for designing, developing, implementing and improving the processes that drive/influence key financial metrics for the areas supported
  • Responsible for validation and maintenance and adjustments to standard cost to ensure standard costs are accurately represented to the business.
  • Responsible for working capital (finished goods, work in process, and raw materials inventory) associated with the lines/areas supported.
  • Responsible for working with Operations leaders, Materials leaders (planning and procurement), warehouse, engineering, suppliers, etc. to implement appropriate materials strategies for all types of material consumption patterns (high dollar/low volume, high dollar/high volume, engineer to order, end of month/end of quarter surges, new product launch, high growth, end of production, etc.) using a wide array of materials planning-execution-fulfillment approaches (e.g. pull/Kanban, lot-for-lot MRP, safety stock, min/max, vendor managed inventory, etc.)
  • All other duties assigned by direct supervisor.
Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of LEAN and the use of LEAN thinking to run, manage, and lead a production team to improve performance.
  • Working knowledge of LEAN and the use of LEAN thinking to improve financial (income statement and balance sheet) performance. Must have working and practical knowledge of Enterprise Resource Systems (ERP) such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc. and bills of materials, standard costing, shop floor operations and cost accounting fundamentals.
  • Must be able to properly understand how to structure bills of materials, use manufacturing routings, leverage work center master files in conjunction with managing shop floor performance and driving shop floor performance improvement.
  • Responsible for the creation of, processing of and execution of Engineering Change Requests and Engineering Change Orders, as released. (Key performance metric related to ECR/EC processing shall include EC/ECR Aging)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • 10+ years of manufacturing experience in Low volume, medium volume, engineer to order discreet manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of LEAN and the use of LEAN thinking to improve operational performance. Ability to lead cross-functional project teams comprised of R&D, junior engineers, quality engineers, sourcing, purchasing, production planning, and assembly & test technicians
  • Knowledge of production processes, costs, quality control, raw materials and other methods for maximizing the efficient manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Advanced knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to design and understand precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Knowledge of the ways various systems interact and how they drive changes in operations, the environment, and other conditions that affect outcomes.
  • Hands-on Knowledge and experience in ProE/AutoCAD/Solid Works, Microsoft Project, and VISIO are required
