Our client is looking for a Business Systems Analyst for a 12+ month project in Merced, CA

The Business Systems Analyst will be a change agent for the CLIENT, helping to lead the development of various systems with emergent designs and integrated solutions. This role in particular will help in the redesign of our various administrative and academic reports and dashboards that are impacted by the change in our numerous information systems. The Analyst is expected to produce high-quality deliverables with minimal guidance. The successful candidate will be able to translate data outputs into strategic tools for senior campus decision makers. Additionally, it is expected that the technical documentation deliverables will be comprehensive yet succinct and will be leveraged by technical development teams in their respective projects. The Business Systems Analyst is also expected to be a thought partner and resource for associates from various functional areas.

We are looking for supporting experience in data, whether that's database design, data warehousing, SQL or report development. This individual will be working with our internal BA Team and our Data Services team to redesign our reports and then support the testing and validation of the rebuild of the various datasets needed to support the reports and dashboards.

1. The Business Analyst will act as a liaison for the Division of Finance and Administration between campus Operations and IT partners by understanding and critically evaluating business needs against system capabilities and organizational capacity.

2. The Business Analyst will do research and discovery within the business service domain to learn industry best practices, activity drivers, emerging opportunities. Analyst will provide recommendations to senior leadership, identifying opportunities to reimagine current business practice in order to improve service delivery.

3. Business Analyst will leverage change management concepts, as it relates to both transformational initiatives and transitional initiatives, in partnership with program management functions. Business Analyst will ensure their approach is in alignment with the specific change needs of the individual initiatives, while maintaining cohesion across the initiatives.

4. Working with stakeholders, other campus business analysts, project managers and technical resources to analyze needs, determine scope of solutions, and help define and deliver solutions that meet business service expectations. Providing direction and leadership on complex projects, including leading other analysts when necessary.

5. Analyzing current business process, recommending improvements, and developing the business and functional requirements needed to ensure that the tools delivered, including technology solutions and reporting.

6. Developing deep domain expertise of, and partnership with, business functions supported and IT delivery teams. Contribute to continuous learning efforts by collaborating with campus business analysis, project managers, and technical resources to develop templates, standards, and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. The analyst works with the business to identify opportunities for improvement(s) in systems, applications and/or business processes. The analyst will be responsible for working with stakeholders to discover and create documentation on existing processes and relationships to support improvement initiatives.

2. The analyst is involved in the design or modification of systems, applications and/or business processes. The analyst documents systems, applications or business processes.

3. The analyst documents functional and non-functional requirements of the systems, applications and/or business processes.

4. The analyst documents reporting requirements to meet the needs of the business.

5. The analyst tracks changes to documented requirements over the life of an implementation, producing final as-built documentation upon completion.

6. The analyst collaborates with system analysis and technical training functions to transfer system/application knowledge in support of their training development.

7. The analyst interacts with system architects and developers to ensure the systems, applications and/or business processes is/are properly implemented.

8. The analyst may help test the systems, applications and/or business processes and create related documentation and/or user manuals.

9. The analyst may help in documenting existing systems/applications to support future assessments, modifications, integrations, etc.

10. Conducting meetings and presentations to share ideas and findings.

11. Documenting and communicating the results of your efforts.

12. Effectively communicating your insights and plans to cross-functional team members and management.

13. Designing, conducting and performing user acceptance testing.

14. Updating, implementing and maintaining procedures.

15. Prioritizing initiatives based on business needs and requirements.

16. Serving as a liaison between stakeholders and users.

17. Managing competing resources and priorities.

18. Monitoring deliverables and ensuring timely completion of projects.


1. Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

2. Strong presentation skills in a broad range of settings, and the ability to engage a wide audience.

3. Thorough knowledge of functional areas and the ability to assess how work may impact other areas in the organization.

4. Proven ability to act as a translator between business functions and technical resources.

5. Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

6. Knowledge of, and experience with developing, entity-relationship diagrams and other specification/diagrammatic artifacts.

7. Knowledge of project management/tracking software, such as JIRA or similar tools.

8. Knowledge of knowledge-management/collaboration software such as Confluence or similar tools. Skilled user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

9. Thorough analytical skills to conduct analyses and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
