Automation Engineer

job summary:
We have a 6 month renewable position for an Automation Engineer with a client of ours in Cary, NC. This position is for an Automation Engineer supporting our complex IT environments. The primary day to day activities for this engineer will revolve around the technical aspects of automating and orchestrating level 0/1 operational tasks. Additional responsibilities will include planning and design around the currency, provisioning, deployment and mechanisms for service impact recovery. This position requires deep knowledge in provisioning requirements of Physical and Virtual hardware, various cloud providers, Operating systems, Network devices, Storage devices and Database servers. This position will be integral in designing a sustainable operational model for automation and orchestration within IT. This position must understand the ITSM process, operations data, as well as real time visibility requirements and how each interacts with the operation of complex production environments.

List of Responsibilities

- Engineer cross product end to end maintainable automation framework for server products, requiring tools evaluation, infrastructure planning, collaboration with existing tools and team members

- Responsible for designing and improving the orchestration flows associated with each layer of infrastructure provisioning

- Responsible for designing the complex workflows needed to provision across the layers of infrastructure

- Define the standards and process for Infrastructure as Code with other architects

- Participate in testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality

- Review tool sets regularly for efficiency, functionality, and cost for performance

- Work closely with internal customers to understand needs, technology landscape, and changing requirements

Preferred Experience

- 3+ years of experience with DevOps or Automation

- 2+ years expertise with IT Process Automation

- 3+ experience with Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt Stack, configuration management tools
