Job Title: .NET Software Engineer

Job Family: Software Engineering

Job Purpose: The Software Engineer writes and maintains code within applications and systems to implement capabilities and features, improve performance and maintainability, while reducing technical debt in alignment with product and technology roadmaps. The Software Engineer plays a role in Agile planning, providing advice and guidance, and monitoring emerging trends.

  • Autonomy: Works under general direction. Uses discretion in identifying and responding to complex issues and assignments. Usually receives specific instructions and has work reviewed at frequent milestones. Determines when issues should be escalated to a higher level.
  • Influence: Interacts with and influences colleagues. Has working level contact with customers, suppliers and partners. May supervise others or make decisions which impact the work assigned to individuals or phases of projects.
  • Complexity: Performs a range of work, sometimes complex and non routine, in a variety of environments. Applies methodical approach to issue definition and resolution Demonstrates an analytical and systematic approach to issue resolution. Takes the initiative in identifying and negotiating appropriate personal development opportunities.
  • Business Skills: Demonstrates effective communication skills. Contributes fully to the work of teams. Key Responsibilities

Agile Planning

  • Works with Product Management to understand the challenges that customers and end users face in their day-to-day work and partner with them to design viable solutions.
  • Recommends viable solutions to processes, technology, and interfaces that improve the effectiveness of the team and reduce technical debt.
  • Foresees capacity requirements for component usage and identifies limitations.
  • Provides input into story sizing, backlog grooming, and release planning.
Product Development

  • Contributes to product and solution designs to address critical issues and complex problems.
  • Builds software applications across multiple platforms in response to the needs of stakeholders.
  • Understands technical architecture and writes software and automated tests that are aligned with agreed upon standards.
  • Performs trouble-shooting efforts and investigations when necessary.
Application Support

  • Provides ongoing support, monitoring, and maintenance of deployed products.
Advice and Guidance

  • Actively works with less experienced software engineers providing technical guidance and oversight.
Emerging Technology Monitoring

  • Actively participates in the engineering community, staying up to date on new software technologies and best practices and shares insights with others in the organization.

Essential

  • 3 years of working experience in a related field
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of industry related professional experience and education
  • Working experience in design, development, and implementation of highly scalable, high-volume software systems and components, client-facing web applications, and major Internet-oriented applications and systems
  • Working experience realizing applications from conception and design, to implementation and support
  • Experience with programming and scripting languages including: C#, ASP.Net, Python, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Thorough understanding of software design and development with C#/.Net platform
  • Knowledge and experience with software development tools such as: Visual Studio, Subversion, Accurev, JIRA, JIRA Agile, experience with Git highly preferred
  • Working experience in coding within multiple technology stacks (e.g. Front-end: browser and device typically using common client-side technologies - HTML, CSS, JavaScript; Back-end: server, application, database using languages like PHP, Python, Ruby)
  • Working experience with application lifecycle methodologies (e.g. agile, iterative)
  • Working experience with Object Oriented Programming
  • Experience with relational databases including writing SQL statements (SQL Server preferred )
Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience with Object-Relational Mapping (ORM )
  • Knowledge of XML and JSON
  • Knowledge of Web Services - SOAP and/or REST
