Domain Architect

job summary:
We have a contract to perm position for a Domain Architect with a client of ours in RTP, NC.

About this Job:

- Provides senior leadership and advice to support the domain leadership team and the delivery of the Domain strategy

- Responsible for understanding and influencing, when appropriate, the domain science strategy and leading its translation into requisite maps that identify the gaps in the current landscape and, where needed, improvements deliver the needed solutions

- Identify opportunities to apply IT technologies and technical competencies to enhance R&D business and create value

- Act as a change leader that drives IS technology adoption within the domain, and with the other domain architects, drives the technology direction and adoption within R&D and ensures that this view is in alignment with R&D IT and Global IT strategy and principles

- Works with R&D and R&D IT core domain leadership and stakeholders to build a holistic view of the domain's platforms, processes, and information assets and to know the critical data and information links between systems. Propose changes and transformations that will enhance the effectiveness of domain systems

- Ensure that technology and information strategy developments in the wider industry are fitted into internal needs such that we are ready to source and exploit these developments to maximize our effectiveness and efficiency

- Responsible for overseeing the architecture delivery and governance for the domain

- Works with service units to define architectural capabilities required to deliver the needs of the domain in terms of resources, suppliers, and partners

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Lead innovation

- Solution definition

- Custodians of standardized differentiation

- Technical foresight to support R&D and improve capabilities

- Manage tactical fixes whilst pushing the strategic roadmap

- Translates domain science strategy into IT technical strategy

- Communicates strategy in terms that are meaningful to both the business and IT community

- Design and execute architectural processes and governance to support a given domain as "fit for purpose" and delivers the desired business value

- Know the R&D activities within the domain and ensure that the IT technology and services are capable of supporting current and future R&D needs:

o Survey external emerging developments, and evangelize new technologies, standards and methodologies that will have a positive impact on R&D.

- Create and maintain technology roadmaps, aligned with R&D, R&D IT and Global IT, to support science strategy and priorities:

o Compile or design architectural models of current and proposed systems across the R&D enterprise for use internally and in conjunction with technology partners

o Build reference models that depict recommended and approved technologies and show case their implementation

- Provide guidance to support effective governance of R&D IT applications, services, and integration

- Change Delivery:

o Responsible for working with the domain team to identify information and technology requirements, map the necessary flow of data, map existing:

o Business processes, ensure alignment of application architectures and complete the necessary project lifecycle documentation

o Understand the demands of IT delivery models, methodology and the appropriateness and dependencies. Use this understanding to ensure that projects progress and are delivered via the prescribed delivery mechanism, architecture and methodology as appropriate. Shares accountability for delivery of change initiatives with the domain team

Qualifications

- University degree or equivalent professional experience

- 5+ years of research systems exposure with 8+ years of systems design

- Minimum 8-10 years' experience in IT arena

- Business knowledge with extensive technical knowledge in applications, information and infrastructure areas

- Strong analytical skills with the ability to resolve complex problems and apply innovative solutions on a global scale

- Familiar with working in a complex matrix and global department

- System & Architecture Design - Develops a systems architecture to describe the complete set of components and interfaces in R&D IT. Contributing to and coordinating design activity between architecture, application development and Services. Good understanding or the inter-relationship between business processes, data structures, applications, and infrastructure

- Technical Specialist Skills - Provides expert knowledge in the selection, provision and use architectures, software and facilities including monitoring latest developments. Contributes to state-of-the-art work on R&D IT topics

- IT Strategy & Planning - Is aware of and understand the IT strategy, including the governance model, the IT organization, the IS policies and standards, the technology and application strategies, as well as the architecture and applies IT strategy frameworks, tools & techniques

- Documentation & Technical Authoring - Ensures that adequate procedures, standards, tools are in place and documented and published. Ensure the Systems Architecture document and the Services Impact Assessment document are completed and posted for every project

- Best Practice, Methods, and Tools - Promotes the adoption of best practices in the effective use of methods and tools for the development, maintenance of systems, and delivery of R&D IT services

- Business Analysis and Process Design - Assesses and advises on the practicality of alternatives, matching technical limitations with operational realities. Must have an excellent understanding of information management concepts

- Inter-personal Skills - Expert in inter-personal skills techniques to deal with a wide range local/international partners and influences

- Familiarity with the Cloud ecosystem, products and solutions

- Experience working within an Agile/scrum framework, CI/CD Pipeline and DEVOPS
