Linux Systems Engineer

job summary:
Our client is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer in the Sacramento area. This will be a direct hire opportunity.

The Linux Systems Engineer will provide Linux server infrastructure, and software support for all of our client's production systems. This position requires an experienced individual, as you must be comfortable with networking, server and communication technologies. You should be very familiar maintaining servers, domains, certificates, DNS, security approaches, network systems, telecommunications and inter-environment communications.

Prior experience in private (OpenStack, CloudStack) and public clouds (AWS, Google, Rackspace), and infrastructure automation via Chef or Puppet.

Responsibilities:

- Design, build, deploy, troubleshoot and maintain or Linux servers in a high availability VoIP and web services environment

-Configuration of RAID 0,1,5,6,10

-Configure and support virtual machine managers like OpenStack, KVM, and public Clouds like AWS.

-Design, build and deploy various applications (Apache, Nginx, MySQL, Asterisk, Couchbase, etc.)

-Define Chef, build recipes for production services in collaboration with Development

-Build and administer PXE, Kickstart, and Cobbler

-Able to script tasks in shell and at least one higher order language (ruby, python, perl, etc.)

-Experience maintaining and configuring various SAN's, tape backups, and storage arrays.

-Excellent understanding of VLANs, configuring multiple interfaces, LACP/Interface Bonding, load balancing, and firewall concepts

-Assist the NOC with creating and configuring SNMP monitoring of services and software running on the linux systems. Configuration of daemon watchdog services like Monit.

Qualifications:

-Bachelor's Degree or equivalent industry experience

-5-10 years' experience designing and building Windows or LINUX systems.

-5-10 years' experience interfacing with network devices, protocols, monitoring tools and reporting applications.

-Experience with WebSocket Servers and Web Service applications

-Experience configuring and utilizing monitoring tools (like Nagios XI and SolarWinds).

-Knowledge of firewalls, load balancers, switches and routers (Cisco and F5)

-Knowledge of packet sniffing tools and analyzing traffic flow down to the port level

-Knowledge of computer/network systems infrastructure requirements, computer security systems, applications, procedures, and standards

Experience with the following is a plus:

-Experience with SIP protocols

-Experience maintaining a high availability telecommunications infrastructure

-Experience with VOIP environments (such as Asterisk and Cisco)

Work Environment:

Work is performed in a business office environment and data center.

Position may require travel to Sacramento facility for onsite server maintenance.

On call support.

Physical Requirements:

Employees may experience the following physical demands for extended periods of time:

-Sitting, standing and walking (95-100%)

-Keyboarding (40-60%)

-Viewing computer monitor, videophone, and pager requiring close vision (40-60%)
