UX Researcher

job summary:


As a UX Researcher, you will be responsible for helping ensure the user is at the center of everything we do. Working with a cross-functional team, including UX Design, Copy, Product, Engineering and Marketing, you will conceive, plan and conduct primary research in the form of user studies, interviews, and surveys, etc., and translate that research into actionable insights that will inform sitemaps, content models, wireframes, and prototypes. You will also design and conduct usability studies to validate design decisions, and ensure a great user experience.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

  • Plan and drive studies to uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Provide user research and usability research support on key projects, working with UX Designers to coordinate and execute that research.
  • Independently plan, conduct, and report on studies and make recommendations to improve the usability of features, functionality, and product offerings.
  • Create and maintain personas based on targeted user groups for products.
  • Champion and evangelize research within the organization.
  • Demonstrate excellence in user research process, communication, and industry leading research techniques.

  • Create strong working relationships and work cross functionally with all key product owners, including UX design, UI Design, product management, and development teams.
  • When research is needed as part of a project, participate in the agile team daily meetings and planning during the time that research is needed. Coordinate with team to plan, execute, and deliver results within the project schedule.
Successful Candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong decision making abilities. Must be able to take research findings and make actionable recommendations for improvements.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to comfortably conduct face-to-face interviews and focus groups.
  • The ability to identify an appropriate research methodology to uncover desirable information, and to work with business stakeholders to understand the answers we need to pursue through research.
  • A strong research point of view coupled with a flexible, versatile and collaborative approach to project work.
Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience designing and conducting research studies, analyzing data, creating meaningful and actionable results, and working successfully with teams to act on and internalize those results
Thorough knowledge of User Experience and Usability research techniques.

  • Ability to translate business needs and research requests into research goals and tasks.
  • Proven track record using research to impact product direction and vision.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to drive product improvements.
Desired but not required

  • An MA/MS or Ph.D. in a research related field such as statistics, marketing, social sciences, experimental psychology, human factors or the equivalent is preferred.
  • Certification from Human Factors International.
