This position is for an entry level Product Performance Engineer within the Marine Service Engineering team primarily supporting Client. Marine Service Engineering is accountable for the product health (performance, quality, reliability, and durability) of the Cat C9.3 through C280 marine engines with responsibility ranging from immediate problem resolution on customer's vessels to supporting long term CPI (Continuous Product Improvement) projects. This position will provide technical support to the various senior Product Service Engineers within the Marine Customer Service team. This position is an entry level position with the opportunity to grow in responsibility as improved capability is demonstrated.

Primary responsibilities for this position include early identification of emerging product problems from the field through the review of warranty claims, data mining of the warranty database for trends, investigation of specific field failures through the claims reporting system, organizing the facts and data necessary to launch Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects, and recalling failed parts from Client dealerships for engineering inspection. A successful candidate will be able to organize and present failure data to effectively communicate component failure rates, Mean Time Before Failure, Is/Is Not problem definition, and warranty cost trends. Additional supporting responsibilities include drafting and updating service publications, follow-up with Client dealerships on product issues, and engaging various engineering teams on resolving field issues in a timely manner. This position is open to recent college graduates but the preferred candidate would have up to 2 years work experience

Typical Day

A typical day may include data analysis on the computer using various Clientsystems and Excel pivot tables, meetings with Engineering, phone conference calls with both internal Client personnel and external Client dealers, occasional inspections or tests on engines on the factory production line, and component teardown inspections at the Client .

Education Requirement

  • BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical, Agricultural, or Mechatronics
Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of diesel or gas engines Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) including Excel Pivot Tables.
  • Proficiency in data mining and analyzing data trends of large data sets including Weibull Analysis.
  • The ability to apply critical thinking to a dataset to draw conclusions and recommendations.
  • Strong ability to apply engineering principles to quickly solve complex technical problems.
Soft Skills

Excellent communication skills (including written, oral, electronic, and presentation skills) Excellent people skills for effective collaboration with various internal and external partners Self-starting individual with high motivation to produce a high quality product Results oriented person with flexibility to accommodate a fast paced and ever changing environment
