Senior Linux Systems Engineer

job summary:
Senior Linux Systems Engineer who will be responsible for the full systems life cycle maintenance & implementation of systems hosting the companies mission critical applications.

In this role, you will provide primary support through daily operations for the following IT functional areas:

  • Linux Operating System administration.
  • Provides technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting, patching, monitoring, cloud management and problem resolution.
Our ideal candidate for this position will be considered expert in the previously mentioned functional areas, have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, have the ability to provide leadership, and work within a collaborative team environment.

This position provides moderate support for the company servers and communications infrastructure. Taking ownership of day to day operations, and leading various local or global projects with limited scope. This role is responsible for maintaining a functional, reliable, and cost effective technology environment for the areas assigned and assisting or leading in identifying the potential for adding value and improvements to the business systems

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides primary support through daily operations for the following but not limited to IT functional areas: Server installation/build automation, patching and configuration.
  • Provides all aspects of Red Hat Linux Server administration for applications in a corporate critical environment.
  • Provide RH Server support for the manufacturing sites.
  • Assist vendors with software installation on Linux Servers.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, sFTP, ADFS, SCCM, and Networking is a plus.
  • Provides technical expertise in the areas of system design, installation, configuration, tuning, capacity planning, troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Available for on call 24x7 support at the beginning, later on be part of the following the Sun support organization.
  • The ideal person for this position will be considered expert or knowledgeable in the previously mentioned areas with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, have the ability to provide leadership and mentoring, and work within a collaborative team environment.
  • Responsible for operational execution / maintenance of applications within infrastructure areas.
  • Completes tasks within a defined timeframe.
  • Ensure effective problem analysis and resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Escalates issues when needed to appropriate levels of IT / business.
  • Effectively solicits and gathers requirements (user, business process, performance requirements, etc.) from business users using appropriate mechanisms and following our standards.
  • Translates business requirements and designs effective solutions.
  • Develops (configures / programs) and unit tests solutions based on our standards and SOPs.
  • Participates as necessary in the validation matrix role to independently test and validate solutions to ensure fulfillment of all business requirements, compliance of regulations and quality of solutions.
  • Effectively follows global IT procedures and policies are followed consistently as defined by the Quality Management System.
Qualifications:

Required Skills & Experience:

  • BS degree in a computer-based discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Information Systems) or a technical discipline (e.g. Engineering, Mathematics) or equivalent combination and experience
  • 5+ years related infrastructure experience.
  • Experience required in the following areas and technologies:

    • System Security, Unix and Linux Operating Systems, and Unix Scripting.
    • Red Hat Linux, RHN Satellite, Red Hat Kickstart, Ansible, Puppet, GitLab, LVM, and VMware.
    • Clustering software Red Hat Clustering.
    • Server monitoring tools SolarWinds
    • System programming experience with knowledge of Perl, Python, and Shell.
  • Must be knowledgeable with all aspects of the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Strong skills in the areas of requirements gathering and test & validation required.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
Preferred Skills & Experience (not required):

  • Pharma/Biotech or similarly regulated environment experience preferred.
  • Cloud experience (AWS or Azure)
