Epic Cache Database Administrator

job summary:
Our client is looking for a Epic Cache Database Administrator for a Direct Hire opportunity in Sacramento, CA.

The incumbent will implement industry best practices including audit and security, database architecture, installation, configuration, performance and administration, incident management, configuration management, change management, database license compliance and backup and recovery of all related enterprise databases. Provide 24 x 7 x 365 critical database service and support to enable flow of data and information, which is vital to the day to day operation of the team.

The incumbent will have advanced knowledge of database administration. The technologies to manage are Cache on AIX and on Windows platforms.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a similar combination of education and experience.
  • Possess extensive hands on experience with Cache Database Administration, with at least half of that in a large Healthcare Environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of shell scripting and SQL/PLSQL programming.
  • Extensive experience in providing support for application development teams and familiarity with SDLC in an agile environment.
  • Extensive experience using monitoring and alerting tools such as Red Alert, System Pulse, SiteScope, etc.
  • Possess extensive experience with the following database administration functions: database definition, storage allocation, security administration, database reorganization, performance tuning, backup, and recovery.
  • Thorough understanding of best practices in the areas of Cache support, and production deployment.
  • Must be able to handle emergencies and perform well under pressure.
  • Extensive experience with Cache Database Replication Techniques, such as Cache Mirroring and Cache Shadowing.
  • Strong knowledge of database concepts and design.
  • DBA level understanding of Storage technologies (SAN, NAS, Thin Imaging, etc...).
  • DBA level knowledge of Windows Server operating system.
  • DBA level knowledge of Unix Server (any flavor) operating system.
  • Strong familiarity with Security Intelligence Platforms for advanced threat detection.
  • Experience with Cache Database backup, recovery, and compliance with Epic standards of Disaster Recovery and High Availability.
  • Knowledge and understanding of query tools, Cache performance tuning.
  • Ability to design, implement and maintain various databases and software systems.
  • Understand the security model that the database engine uses and how to use it effectively to control access to the data:

    • Authentication - setting up user accounts to control logins to the database,
    • Authorization - setting permissions on various database objects and resources, and
    • Auditing - tracking who did what with the database to meet Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA requirements.
  • Create and maintain database user ids

Job duties:

Capacity Planning, System Monitoring, and Performance

  • Plan, implement and monitor database storage.
  • Implement monitoring and scheduling systems for database jobs and processes.
  • Administer multiple server instances running on different operating systems and database management systems.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Cache in a clustered/multiple environment.
  • Establish a baseline for the database performance and monitor it on a regular basis.
  • Monitor database license usage.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Cache on AIX platform including application of patches and upgrades.
  • Manage and troubleshoot Cache on Windows platform including application of patches and upgrades.
  • Analyze current database information and architecture and recommend methods to improve performance of the database.
  • Troubleshoot production processes and solve problems in real-time.
  • Monitor database system details within the database, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Assist development staff in identifying and correcting malfunctioning software.
  • Define, design and implement monitors and alerts to assure efficient operation of the database engines.
  • Assist customers and vendors in identifying, monitoring, and resolving applications performance issues.
