Support Engineer V

job summary:
Job Overview and Responsibilities

With limited guidance from a supervisor, the Level 2 Application Support (not Sys Admin) person provides direct technical and application support in problem management, integration, deployment and systems programming. Implement application releases, upgrades, and/or changes into the environment. Ensure application performance and availability meet design criteria and objectives through monitoring, timely service restoration, and tuning. Duties may include may include system implementation, application monitoring, control usage of disk space, system maintenance/administration, and troubleshooting/diagnostics.

- Perform root cause analysis to quickly recover from service interruptions, and to prevent recurring problems

- Provide technical support, as needed, to the enterprise

- Consult with other business units (e.g. application groups, DBAs, middleware, etc.) to configure platforms for product installation and ongoing support

- Ensure platforms/systems conform to established enterprise/industry standards (systems management, security, operating systems, etc.) and reference models

- Implement changes to platforms with minimal impact to the business by following enterprise standards and procedures

- Monitor, manage, and tune platforms to ensure expected availability and performance levels are achieved

- Provide on-site, and on-call 7x24x365 support, as needed

- Coordinate activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers

- Plan and implement life cycle management of software and hardware

- Analyze, design, and document platforms/systems to meet enterprise requirements

- Install, customize, maintain, test, and troubleshoot operating systems and other systems software

Required

Experience

- 5-6 years' experience as an Application Support Engineer

Education

- BS in Information Technology or Computer Science/Engineering

Technical Skills

o WebSphere management/configuration, JVMs and Java Application deployments

o Documentum server / Doc Base management

o Microsoft Technology Stack - browser, .NET, IIS 7/8.5, MS SQLServer versions 12/14/16

o IBM Websphere Application Server 8.5

o Apache HTTP Server

o Share Level and NTFS Level Permissions

o DFS and SAN technologies (NetApp)

o Global Active Directory Domain Knowledge

o BigIP F5 LTM Load Balancing concepts

o Multi-Data Center, Multi-Zone Environment familiarity and understanding

o MS SQLServer database structure and queries

o MS SQL Cluster Environments

o Knowledge and Ability to troubleshoot Network/Firewall issues

o Knowledge of how Domain Name System (DNS) works

o Powershell/Batch/VB scripting

o Code Deployment and configuration, CI/CD knowledge (CARA), a plus
