Our client is seeking an Epic Client System Administrator for a Direct Hire opportunity in Sacramento, CA.

The senior Epic Client System Administrator (ECSA) serves as the technical lead in installing and administering the Microsoft Windows server infrastructure. Support day-to-day operations of critical Epic application environments serving Production, Non-production, Reporting, Training and Disaster Recovery to ensure the highest degree of systems performance and availability of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) platform. The administrator performs configuration, deployment, proactive monitoring, maintenance, and documentation of these systems. This position will be expected to proactively oversee the health of these systems to resolve observed and reported issues in a timely manner. Candidates should already be familiar and experienced with Microsoft Windows server administration. This role is part of the Epic Client Systems Administrator (ECSA) group and works in coordination with other ECSAs as well as other infrastructure and application teams to support the Epic platform. In addition to administering the Microsoft Windows server infrastructure, the lead ECSA is responsible for applying server system updates and upgrades. They will work collaboratively with the DBA Team and other IS technical staff to install, maintain, troubleshoot, monitor and optimize our Epic applications, environments and the systems they run on. This includes our Epic Cache databases, Epic ancillary Windows applications, and Data Courier migrations and administration. This position will be participating in or leading EMR downtimes and upgrades. This position assists with setting requirements and standards for the team, and actively coaches junior team members.

System Analysis, Design & Implementation

  • Install and configure all Windows-based Epic ECSA applications, components and services: API Proxies (Soap, Rest), BCA Web, Canto, Care EveryWhere, Epic Care Link, ECSA Tools, FIPS, Grand Central IVR, Haiku, HyperSpace Web, Interconnect, Kuiper, MyChart, MyChart Mobile, Epic Print Service, Relay, Rover, System Pulse, WebBlob
  • Install and configure all Epic Clients: BCA PC, Home Health, HyperSpace, Warp, Willow, Workflow Conductor and coordinate deployment with other IS teams.
  • Performs needs assessment (identification of functional and system requirements) for complex technical implementations that cross multiple technologies.
  • Reviews Technical enhancements associated with application upgrades and identify, review, schedule, test and implement enhancements that improve the availability and/or performance of EMR
  • Defines and implements system services and technology solutions. Proposes and implements system or device enhancements such as software, hardware and network configuration (load balancing and clustering), updates and installations for projects or services of moderately complex scope.
  • Assists in the configuration of integrated third-party software and peripherals, including document management systems, voice recognition, scanning, and faxing

System Management:

  • Leads the management of systems and services for a facility of moderate size and makes recommendations for purchase or upgrade of new computer hardware, software and services. Performs moderately complex analysis to acquire, install, modify and support operating systems and utility tools. Plans, designs and implements moderately complex system updates and rollouts. Participates in change control processes for all planned application implementations and updates.
  • Build, configure, test, maintain and review High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity systems. Lead periodic campaigns to validate production fail-over capabilities.
  • Work with the EMR Support team to support environment management and systems change control programs and methodologies to ensure information systems meet EMR application needs for moving/promoting functionality between environments.
  • Ensure EMR environments are available and configured as required for EMR Application. Coordinate refreshes and proper application versions, track usage and utilization.
  • Manage redirection of web applications to different environments in coordination with other EMR analysts to troubleshoot and test functionality after system updates.
  • Assist in capacity planning and execution for EMR application.
  • Coordinate with IS technical teams and Vendor needs impacting EMR environments for server or storage maintenance, upgrades and other planned downtime.
  • Leads system maintenance and upgrade downtimes, applying updates to systems and clients.

  • Identify, implement, and test upgrades for supported systems. This includes but not limited to workstations, print servers, Citrix servers, Unix servers, telecommunication, and any other supported systems
  • Review, schedule, implement and manage system technical changes identified by application vendors. Review IT infrustructure changes to identify those changes that may have an impact to supported systems
  • Serves as technical resource to project and IT teams to resolve technical problems with the EMR system.
  • Execute scripts in support of systems management, log analysis and other system administration duties for multiple integrated systems
  • Monitor integrated systems and applications for system errors, disk space, and accessibility and assists in the troubleshooting and take corrective actions to resolve issues. Leads in the analysis of performance or system issues using techniques that invove the evalution of variable factors such as analysis of the situations and data.
  • Assist other EMR teams with troubleshooting their build with regards to EMR servers, making system updates when determined necessary.
  • Manages scripts to monitor, reboot, and to perform application and systems tasks
  • Monitor record import process and take corrective action to resolve issues.
  • Lead cross-departmental efforts to root cause systems issues. Provide root cause analysis to CIS management for systems interruptions.

Project Management

  • Manage and support EMR environment needs, in coordination with the EMR Support, Testing, Reporting, Training, HIM, and EMR Application teams.
  • Provides leadership and technical direction to team members and other analyst teams to ensure proper implementation of device (workstation, printer) deployments, device configuration, system changes and web integrated technology in a timely fashion.
  • Provides recommendations for team changes in methods, processes, and hardware/software to provide a better product for end-users.
  • Orients and trains staff on processes and methods to be used in working with multiple IT groups to build, design and implement systems enhancements and changes.
  • Participates in projects management activities, including setting project timelines for technical design and build activities, and adjusting as needed to provide for changes in scope, unforeseen issues and complications.
  • Tracks resources progress toward meeting project deadlines and fulfilling stated requirements.
  • Independently manages projects and work with other IT departments to perform project management activities required to fulfill project objectives.
  • Participate in pre-implementation Readiness Reviews and provide recommendations.
  • Manage projects to ensure the quality and timely implementation of systems; to obtain needed resources to complete projects; manage work plan and project steps using established tools and procedures; and monitor project status and resolves project issues in a timely manner
  • Provide leadership and technical subject matter expertise in all areas of architectural and design requirements of vendor ECSA systems
  • Supports 3rd party application software; interacts with vendors regarding problems, upgrade schedules, and software installations.

  • Lead representative in troubleshooting and resolving unplanned downtimes.
  • Escalates and provides status updates to management on priority production support issues
