Our client is currently seeking an IT Programmer for a 6+ month contract opportunity located in Suitland, MD.

responsibilities:
Essential Job Duties:

  • Identify and communicate technical problems, processes and solutions
  • Convert code provided by scientists into code capable of running in a production environment, including software design, engineering, and debugging
  • Provide immediate code fixes for problems impacting product delivery/quality in near-real-time
  • Assist in the collection and documentation of user requirements and prepare reports, manuals and other documentation on the status, operation and maintenance of software
  • Program, configure, integrate, test, modify, and debug applications which process and distribute NOAA weather data
  • Use the Software Development Lifecycle for the development and implementation of both fixes and enhancements, as required by the customer
Education and Experience Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required, equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree

- At least four (4) years of related experience required; at least two (2) years of experience will be accepted if candidate has Master's Degree from an accredited college or university

 
qualifications:
- Experience using these key elements of the target software environment:

o Linux, bash shell, perl, python

o F95, F77, java, C, C++

o Scientific data formats such as HDF-4, HDF-5, netCDF

o PHP, Python, and Shell scripting

- Additional desired experience and qualifications:

o F2003, IDL, MATLAB, HTML

o Java script, xml, jboss

o Meteorological data formats such as bufr, grib2, McIDAS, 1b satellite formats

o Geographical Information Systems

o Retrieval algorithm development

o Community Radiative Transfer Model

o Apache Subversion (SVN) or other version control software

 
skills: o Software development life cycle

o Operational systems support

o C, C++, F95, IDL

o netCDF-4, arcGIS, other meteorological/scientific data formats

o Waterfall and/or Agile SDLC

- Ability to work well independently and in a team setting

- Adaptability, flexibility and ability to deal with ambiguity and change

- Excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills

- Excellent attention to detail and good analytical skills
