Application Support Operations Engineer

job summary:
The ideal candidate will have maintained proprietary applications in a high-availability production environment and have the ability to rapidly self-educate on new concepts and methods. In Company's role as a Health Information Network provider, connecting health care providers with health plans and enabling the smooth flow of information is paramount. Careful monitoring of the availability and performance of systems at the infrastructure, middleware and application levels is a crucial piece of finding and fixing issues - before they impact our customers. You should be passionate about high availability, high service performance systems, and enjoy being a front-line responder for analysis and troubleshooting of critical issues impacting hundreds of thousands of users utilizing an expert background in development best practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Application availability, performance, and stability.

· Responsible for planning, designing, and implementing the appropriate monitoring and alerting solutions needed to ensure the stability, integrity, and efficient operation of enterprise information systems.

· Work closely with the product, development, and engineering teams to understand the operational support needs of new products and features.

· Key resource in the incident management and response escalation path, including after hours and on-call support rotation.

· Design, implement, maintain internal tools to improve the efficiency of the team in day to day operations.

· Navigate a complex Oracle/SQL database to query information, build custom cursors and scripting, and perform large-scale data manipulation.

· Investigate and recommend ways to more elegantly/efficiently enhance application and environment processing time and reliability.

· Produce and maintain documentation on enhancements, incidents, SOP's, and FAQs through Confluence.

· Contribute to planning efforts for disaster recovery, capacity expansion, component upgrading and system hardening.

· Leverage strong knowledge of Windows, and related scripting languages, in administration and maintenance of the production environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

· Experienced in troubleshooting complex systems and technology.

· Experience in technical project management relating to the operations of enterprise applications.

· Performance testing and tuning experience a plus.

· Software development experience a big plus

o SQL

o Windows / Powershell

o Microsoft .NET programming languages like VB, C#, etc.

o FTP / Shared Drives / Networking

o Job scheduling software

· Application engineering / ITIL / lean six sigma experience a plus

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

· Hands-on knowledge of Windows Server and VMware.

· Strong knowledge of distributed processing systems.

· Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and analytical skills

· Experience with best practice theory and execution around incident management

· Proven track record troubleshooting critical issues on complex, high-traffic systems

· Ability to analyze and optimize all major aspects of server-side performance

· Ability to implement solid script-based solutions for system tasks

· Self-starter who manages their own priorities and activities

· Excellent organizational skills and discipline to follow through

· Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel

· Able to tackle complex issues with a strong sense of urgency and ownership

· Demonstrable knowledge of monitoring and support tools (IT360, Splunk, JIRA, New Relic, etc.)
