Cabling Technician

job summary:
Our client is seeking a Cabling Technician for an 8 month contract opportunity in Sacramento, CA.

Requirements / Preferred Qualifications:

  • (M) Knowledge of electrical properties governing the transmission of electrical signals over copper transmission mediums.
  • (M) Knowledge of optical properties governing the transmission of light over fiber optic cabling.
  • (M) Ability to convey knowledge concerning industry standards associated with low voltage and fiber optic cabling to represent IT in a (M) professional manner.
  • (M) Able to understand and act based on verbal or written direction to complete tasks within this position description.
  • (M) Ability to read, interpret, comment and correct traditional construction drawings and specifications on all IT installations.
  • (M) In depth knowledge of materials necessary to select an acceptable, electrical or optical, medium to transport to complete a design.
  • (M) Able to enter a confined space such as a maintenance vault or asbestos confinement.
  • (M) Able to lead and manage cabling crews providing deliverables to IT and the University.
  • (M) Skilled in testing copper and fiber cabling.
  • (P) Able to estimate cabling installations, supports, attachments, labor and materials for typical IT construction work.
  • (P) Knowledge pertaining to the installation and termination of fiber, copper, coax, 18/2, dvi, hdmi, and other common communications cabling mediums.
  • (P) Able to read and analyze fiber and copper test results for University acceptance.
  • (P) Able to terminate typical Data Cable and/or Fiber Cable.
  • (P) Knowledge of electronic equipment pertaining to DAS and 70 paging systems.
  • (P) Knowledge and ability to use underground locating equipment.
  • (P) Skilled in developing drawings to illustrate IT cabling deliverables.
  • (P) Skilled in developing drawings to enable other IT teams to proceed with installation deliverables.
  • (P) In depth knowledge of Fire and National Electrical Code, as it pertains to IT deliverables, to guide and facilitate IT installations to fruition while maintaining building code.
Job Functions:

  • Maintain cooperative relationship with all users of IT spaces in order to anticipate changes in technology to support those changes as they apply to the IT space requirements.
Copper, fiber, and systems maintenance

  • Respond to USA, Underground Service Alert tickets. Assess, mark and or assign to vendor.
  • Maintain overhead paging and distributed antenna systems.
  • Initiate maintenance of copper and fiber infrastructure as necessary.
  • Work with construction professionals for submittal approval for IT facilitie
