Quality Assurance Software Engineer

job summary:
The primary purpose of the QA Engineer role is to develop software for our Clients systems products, contributing to all aspects of the software development life-cycle. This role works as a part of the development team by actively coordinating and executing testing activities. The QA Engineer works collaboratively within the Product Development teams and with other departments within the Mining Systems Unit and Machine Control to ensure all levels of testing are undertaken to deliver a high-quality product.

responsibilities:
  • Develop test artifacts conforming to functional requirements and technical specifications (test plans, test scripts, test cases, etc.) for our clients products.
  • Execute functional, performance, load and regression tests (manual and automated), as applicable.
  • Maintain baseline test environments and databases for required product versions and configurations
  • Identify opportunities for automated tests and contributing to the implementation and improvement of automated testing tools.
  • Manage defects, including root-cause analysis and initiate process improvement to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide regular reports on testing activity and performance against agreed quality KPIs.
  • Advise the team on testing strategies and methodologies.
  • Ensure agreed testing practices are adhered to by the development teams.
  • Interface with other groups as required to deliver the required quality objectives.
  • Seek, use and promote best practice methodologies & tools to deliver quality software releases.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the software development process within the development team.
  • Compliance with our Client's Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures, participation in audits and compliance with instructions given in respect to the health and safety of himself/herself and the safety of others.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computing, Engineering, or a related field
  • 2-5 years of relevant commercial experience.
  • Experience managing the software test process.
  • Experience developing test plans and other test artifacts.
 
skills:
  • Experience implementing and designing automated test environments.
  • Experience integrating test frameworks into development environments.
  • Understanding of the application of Design Patterns to software development.
  • Knowledge of Linux / Unix and relational databases.
  • Basic wireless networking experience.
  • Basic ability to write SQL queries in ANSI SQL.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Strong communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Strong time management, prioritization and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility in different situations and adapt to change.
  • High level of personal drive and self-motivation.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to rapidly grasp technical solutions, concepts, and products.
  • Desire to expand own knowledge and skill set as well as sharing knowledge with other team members.
  • Some domestic and international travel will be required for this position.
Desirable

  • Understanding and application of Object-Oriented Design (OOD), Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and related software design concepts.
Knowledge of SQL Server or Postgres DBMS.

  • Exposure to Scrum methodology.
  • Practical experience developing software in an agile team environment.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the mining industry is advantageous.
  • Some experience with Hardware/Embedded testing.
