Project Manager

job summary:
The Product Owner / Project Manager is responsible to translate strategy and features into user stories and manage the product roadmap through validation of deliverable user value. You will manage large scale technical and non-technical projects in support of the company's strategic goals and objectives. These projects will be complex in nature, may involve budgets in excess of 3 million dollars and the Project Manager will be responsible for managing multiple projects at any one time. A thorough understanding of both waterfall and agile project management is required, as well as, demonstrated hands on experience with both methodologies. This individual will act as a mentor for project teams and is expected to not only support project delivery but also to lead the further maturation of process refinements within the PMO.

responsibilities:
  • Management of projects through the full delivery lifecycle.

    • Translate high-level customer needs into actionable user stories and maintain stories in a product backlog
    • Groom and prioritize the work in the team backlog in accordance with product strategy and goals
    • Collaborates with multiple product development teams and product owners to coordinate development across teams
    • Ensure Scrum team delivers value by defining the acceptance criteria for user stories and accepting/rejecting completed work
    • Manage change in accordance with a formal Change Control Policy.
    • Drive to key decisions from Sponsors, Product Owners and Sr. Management.
    • Provide Project status to middle management on a weekly basis, as well as, periodically (potentially on short notice) to Senior Management.
    • Collaborates with stakeholders and product team to decompose large stories into features and user stories that can be understood by the development team
    • Accountable for sprint readiness and delivery
    • Willing to jump in to complete hands-on work as needed in order to get things done.
    • Expertise managing enhancements and features from ideation through development and delivery.
  • Develop project plans and manage projects following the Project Management Office's (PMO) defined processes.
  • Help to lead the definition of a formalized Agile Project Management Framework.
  • Define, manage and oversee the allocation and monitoring of resources and resource utilization on projects.
  • Work with the Project Sponsors and/or Product Owners in the planning and management of projects.
  • Identify key interdependencies in projects against other active projects and work cross-functionally to ensure appropriate management and successful outcomes.
  • Manage project teams, including resources that do not have a direct reporting relationship.
  • Monitor productivity, schedules, staffing, work plans and budgets to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Maintain and update business cases and success metrics throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyze issues and develop creative solutions to support resolution
  • Facilitate team meetings
  • Work with the PMO Director to enhance the Project Intake and Management Methodology, including tools and templates.
  • Develop and manage productive working relationship with project sponsors and other key project stakeholders
  • Experience writing user stories, vertically slicing features, using test suites, and maintaining Scrum backlogs.
 
qualifications:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.
  • Certified ScrumMaster, SAFe Agilist, or PMI Agile Certified Practitioner preferred.
  • Previous experience using a Project Portfolio Management (PPM) tool such as Clarity, Microsoft Project Server or Daptiv strongly preferred.
  • Experience using an agile planning tool such as Microsoft Azure DevOps, Rally, Jira or TFS preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of multiple project management methodologies and principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in writing Business Requirements and Functional Specifications in a Business Analyst role a strong plus.
  • Understanding of and experience with development of business cases a plus.
  • Strong technology background and familiarity with all stages of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience working with outsource development vendors.
