Network Operations Specialist

job summary:
The Network Operations Specialist reports to the Senior Operations Manager. The role focuses providing operational and project support ensuring that hosted and managed services/applications and data center facilities are highly available.

The role requires advanced to mastery skills that enable the individual to deliver a high level of service and to meet the expectation from the business of a highly available agile infrastructure. Advanced to mastery knowledge of Core, Specialized and technical competencies is required, along with a very solid understanding of an enterprise IT infrastructure operational environment, adhering to industry best practice.

responsibilities:
Strategic

  • Leads the production and maintenance of processes, procedures, operational and architectural documentation meeting GTI standards
  • Is accountable for execution according to established standards, procedures, and processes
  • Owns cross-functional support for development and implementation of systems
  • Ensures data center systems are always available and reliable
  • Ensures optimization and performance of the hardware and virtual infrastructure
  • Is responsible for awareness and compliance to policy and guidelines of the ISMS
  • Ensures compliance with Change Control processes and adherence to standards and documentation
Operational

  • Owns 24x365 network operation and management
  • Controls the Global Hosting Services Local Area Network and routing
  • Ensures third level support to the Operations Groups
  • Monitors the Service Desk system
  • Participates in planned "Systems Day" and other maintenance activities
  • Participates in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation (GHS, network teams)
  • Responds to and manages service issues and problems
  • Reports any breaches in information security or policies
  • Assists in training new staff in technical processes and procedures
Relationship Management

  • Participates in global working groups responsible for the deployment and development of global technology systems and infrastructure
  • Participates in the business impact assessment and risk assessment processes and helps to identify appropriate controls to mitigate identified risks
  • Understands and communicates requirements of member firms and external regulatory bodies for data privacy
  • Advises stakeholders with peer guidance about basic knowledge and background of all Solutions Architecture technologies, processes and issues
  • Works with CTO leadership and application teams in reviewing new documentation
  • Understands and manages the relationships of all GTI relevant stakeholders
  • Supports the execution of the primary goals of IT Governance
 
qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the technology domain
  • Proven track record and experience of the following in a highly complex and global organization:

    • Creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures, with fault tolerance, performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection
    • Setting up, configuring, upgrading, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco routers and switches, including Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI)
    • Demonstrating expertise of IT governance concepts
    • Recognizing and handling confidential and sensitive information
    • Managing support cases with external technology vendors
  • A current Cisco Certified Internetwork Routing and Switching certification (CCIE) is preferred
  • Professional certifications are preferred, including:
  • Additional Cisco qualifications
  • Microsoft qualifications
  • ITIL Foundation qualification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate strategic information security topics, policies and standards as well as risk-related concepts to technical and nontechnical audiences at various hierarchical levels
  • Sound knowledge of business management and an expert knowledge of information / cybersecurity strategy and governance
  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP, including packet level analysis
  • Expert knowledge with networking features and protocols such as spanning tree, VPC, ARP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, Ether channel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, RADIUS/TACACS+, ISE, VPLS, and MPLS
  • Knowledge of network monitoring tools and commands to ensure quick resolution to issues
  • Strong expertise in Cisco Nexus series switches
  • Knowledge of server and virtual server, technologies is a plus
  • Ability to manage a global team in a matrix environment
  • Bachelor's degree: degree in Computer Sciences, or equivalent education-related experience
