Randstad is looking for a Server Support Technician to provide support for Unix/Linux Server environment for a long term contract.

Job location can be in Raleigh, NC, Richmond, VA, or Lynchburg, VA

Shift: M-F 8am-5pm

General job description:

The Server Support Technician maintains server infrastructure and resolves server-related incidents. Desire candidates with an understanding of VM system administration, in addition to RedHat operating system knowledge.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot server performance/capacity issues
  • Maintain server operating system, configuration standards and patch levels
  • Assist in image creation and definition, testing and distribution
  • Resolve customer access issues, add, delete modify users
  • Assist with server network troubleshooting
  • Assist with enforcement and maintenance of security policies and procedures
  • Enforce process for moving server/application into production
  • Build and configure new servers
  • Create and maintain server documentation
  • Provide 2nd level technical consulting
  • Manage and document problem resolution within ticketing system
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support for Unix/Linux Server environment
Certifications desired:

  • Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (RHCSA) or above
  • VMware VCA Certification

  • Possesses the ability to work well, integrate, coordinate, and knowledge share with a diverse, virtual team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required
  • Strong knowledge level of Red Hat Linux
  • Working knowledge level of Red Hat High Availability Clustering
  • Working knowledge level of Red Hat Virtualization
  • Working knowledge level of VMware vSphere and the ability to manage ESXi and vCenter Server Appliance via command-line functionality
  • Working knowledge of configuration management/automation systems (Puppet, Chef, Ansible)
  • Working knowledge level of "Cloud" infrastructure and providers (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, OpenStack)
  • Understanding of containerization technologies such as LXC and Docker (Kubernetes / OpenShift)
  • Expertise with LVM-based file systems, thin-provisioned volumes, snapshots, ext3/4 and XFS file system recovery
  • Thorough understanding of server hardware and peripherals, including boot from SAN, multipathing, and networking
  • Able to demonstrate superior creative, innovative and problem-solving skills
  • Able to interpret data, draw conclusions and make recommendations
  • Able to analyze devices, designs, materials and processes
  • Bachelors' Degree or equivalent in a technical discipline
  • 2-3 years' experience, at least one of those years as an associate administrator
