Sr. Business Analyst

job summary:
Summary:

Responsible for eliciting, organizing, documenting requirements in a logical and disciplined manner that supports the identification or confirmation of a business need, evaluates solutions that resolve the business need by technical means or business process improvement, and assists in evaluating that the needs were resolved or met.

Participates in projects to develop business case during project initiation, identify business needs and develop business, functional and non-functional requirements during planning, develop testing validation requirements and support user testing and support execution of change management strategies for adoption of new systems or system changes throughout the project life cycle.

responsibilities:
Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Be the liaison between the business units, technology teams and support teams
  • Distinguish a business problem's symptoms from its root cause, and help discover the true root cause
  • Identify all the systems, processes and users that are impacted by the business problem, and/or the solution
  • Ensure that the system/process users' interests are known and communicated to other project stakeholders
  • Prepare for and conduct requirements elicitation activities and confirm the results.
  • Elicit requirements using interviews, document and business analysis, requirements workshops, JAD sessions, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, compile high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs
  • Document requirements and use cases, and create workflows and other diagram that will support critical evaluation and analyses of problems and solutions
  • Organize requirements, specify and model requirements and designs, validate and verify information, identify solution options, and estimate the potential value that could be realized.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to analyze information needs and business and functional requirements and deliver the artifacts as needed. These may include: Project Feasibility Studies/Business Case Analysis; Business Process Documentation, Work Flow Diagrams; Functional Requirements/Business Requirements Documentation; Functional Specifications; Use Cases, mock-ups of screens or report, traceability matrices. Contribute to creation of User Acceptance test cases.
  • Understand the solution options that are available, and help project stakeholders prioritize those options based on objective criteria that will enable selection of the best option.
  • Evaluate project assumptions to determine their validity
  • Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs
Interpersonal Skills:

  • Must have excellent communications skills (written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities to achieve work by agreed upon schedule
  • Effectively collaborates with peers and leadership to share information on projects and solutions
  • Supports a positive, collaborative team environment that encourages success
  • Ability to prepare and present complex issues and problems in a logical, well thought-out manner that can be clearly understood by all stakeholders
Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science or related discipline. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • IIBA Certification or PMI-PBA certification a plus
Minimum Experience:

  • Experience in business analysis, preferably in both waterfall and agile methodologies
  • 7 - 10 years' experience in business analysis, preferably in both waterfall and agile methodologies
  • Proficient in MS Office, expert in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Vision
