Active Directory Engineer

job summary:
The Active Directory Engineer is a key contributor in supporting the University's Active Directory (AD) environments and users thereof. This is a highly secure, state-of-the-art, robust and resilient, multi-tenant AD as a service (ADaaS). Additionally, may be called upon to support migrations from a large, dispersed enterprise collection of ADs.

responsibilities:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions*):

- Troubleshooting and support of AD environment and users

- Gather data from systems and stakeholders.

- Work with internal team members across various technical groups to ensure alignment and coordination.

- Install, configure and maintain AD and third-party software utilities.

- Develop scripts to automate routine functions including account creation, termination, monitoring and reporting, etc.

- Document and maintain system installation, configuration and troubleshooting documentation for domain technologies.

- Provide training as required.

- Other duties as needed or required

Typical Core Duties

  • Participate fully in the build, configuration and documentation of IT infrastructure
  • Ensure adherence to IT standards and service level objectives.
  • Monitor and optimize IT infrastructure.
  • Define and track performance metrics to ensure efficient use of IT resources
  • Design and implement robust and secure IT solutions
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technologies and improve processes/services and implement related enhancements
  • Support and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison and mentor junior staff
  • Contribute to establishment of best practices
  • Abide by and follow the client University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct
Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' post-secondary education and/or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications

  • The following qualifications are critical:

    - 5+ years of professional experience in Active Directory.

    - At least 3 years current experience in scripting (VB/.Net/Powershell) administrative tasks.

    - Knowledge of advanced IAM security principles

    - Experience with emerging Cloud/DevOps infrastructure technologies

    - Demonstrated experience with systems and data query tools

    - Azure Active Directory federated single sign-on (SSO) integration process and tools.

    - Microsoft Active Directory Services (Active Directory Certificate Services, Domain Services, Federation Services, and Networking Services.)

    - Knowledge of Active Directory sites, trusts, and topology.

    - Extensive ADSI, PowerShell, remote PowerShell, remote ADSI experience.

    - Familiarity with Identity Federation technologies including experience integrating large-scale identity solutions.

    - Microsoft Online (Office 365 (w/Mail Migrations), Azure/Cloud.

    - MCTIP, MCSE and/or other Microsoft Certifications.

    - Training and/or certifications in one or more of: Agile, DevOps, ITIL, COBIT, ISO/IEC, SANS, NIST or related frameworks.

    - Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills

    - Work outside normal business hours may sometimes be required.

    - Participation in regular on-call rotation may be required.

    - Demonstrated team performance skills, service mindset approach, and the ability to act as a trusted advisor
