SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under the direction of the Virtualization Platform Services Manager, the Virtualization Engineer will provide technical support responsibilities for various hypervisors (VMware ESX, Hyper-V) and server hardware (HP, Cisco UCS, IBM x86). SUMMARY STATEMENT: Under the direction of the Virtualization Platform Services Manager, the Virtualization Engineer will provide technical support responsibilities for various hypervisors (VMware ESX, Hyper-V) and server hardware (HP, Cisco UCS, IBM x86). The candidate will be working closely with the Virtualization Architect to provide leading edge Virtualization solutions to the organization. Must be flexible in work schedules.

The VM Engineer position will be deploying on VMware, Nutanix and Cisco UCS component hardware and virtual hosts which provide Virtual Hosting platforms at the client site.

The VM Engineer will:

  • Help define the new Security Service and SLA for on-boarding new applications protected by NSX-T.
  • Work with ISS clients and ISS colleagues to implement and deploy NSX-T VM Security Tagging to an existing on premise "Brownfield" group of migrated applications and servers.
Collaborate with team members and other departments to also deploy NSX-T Security model to Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and VMC on AWS.

Duties and Tasks

Essential Responsibilities for Assignment

- Candidate must be ITIL Foundation certified or experienced with creating ITIL Service Definition and Service on-boarding process.

- Working knowledge of Service Now is desirable.

- Candidate must be experienced in Software Defined Data Center Infrastructure and Security, namely, VMware NSX, preferably NSX-T.

- Deliver NSX-T VM Security Tagging to company portfolio of existing Virtual Systems.

- Candidate must be experienced with VMware vRealize Network Insight analysis tool and able to create network flow diagrams and identify schemas and firewall rulesets.

- A working knowledge of network firewalls and Palo Alto is desirable.

- IT Security background and experience in a virtualization hosting environment is important.

- Candidate must have good client presentation and communication skills in order to gather requirements and facilitate on-boarding of applications with newly defined Security service.

- Support of customized, technical virtualization solutions for ISS customers in the data center, on the desktop, and in the cloud

- Maintain and support virtualization solutions taking into account sizing, infrastructure, data protection, disaster recovery, and application requirements

- Provide troubleshooting expertise for virtualization performance and other issues

- Help maintain and support complete virtualization solutions taking into account infrastructure, data protection, high availability, resource management, automation, disaster recovery, and application requirements

- Focus on a supporting role for ISS virtualization resources on appropriate specializations including virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), lab automation, and disaster recovery

- Demonstrate a clear understanding and expertise for deployment of networking technologies in a virtualized environment, and be able to present these concepts in conjunction with the ISS Networking Engineering team

- Meet and maintain product/expertise individual certification requirements as defined by the organization

- Perform needs analysis, information gathering on client expectations and technical baselines for writing or technical review of Statements of Work (SOWs).

- Stay up to date on emerging technologies and products, including attaining certifications and participation in industry events as appropriate.

- Ideal candidates will have excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills.

- Support enterprise Hyper-V and ESX environments

- Provision virtual guests, maintain storage/data stores and support day to day operations for VM Host and Guest health.

- Work with Architect to provide performance and usage reports. Trouble shoot Hyper-V and ESX issues.

- Appropriately size VM guests and maintain system stability.

- Provide support for Cisco UCS infrastructure build and maintenance

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Required Experience

-3 -4 years VMWare ESX / Hyper-V or combination of both. Strong understanding of Virtual environments, Vsphere Vcenter, Hyper-V Virtual Machine Manager.

3-4 years Microsoft Server Operating System and Windows Administration experience. Experience with HP and Cisco UCS hardware installation and maintenance

-Preferred Microsoft or Vmware Certification

-Good understanding of the organizations goals and objectives

-Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

-Technical documentation skills

-Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language

-Self motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail

-Able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

-Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

-Good written and oral communication skills
