Data Analyst

job summary:
Within our Claims Operations team, we are looking for a highly capable Temp Data Analyst to join our team on a temporary three-month assignment and work in our Alpharetta (GA) office . The Data Analyst will serve as a liaison between business units, Claims Operations and the IT Data Team, to identify inefficiencies or opportunities for improvement in Claims Operations along with handling technical reporting requests. The role will report to the Claims Operations Data and Compliance manager and will be key in understanding the business needs and aligning them with Claims Operations' strategy and capacity. This role will also act as a team lead and facilitate knowledge transfer between colleagues through SQL training and query writing.

The focus of this position is to work closely with the business units to gain understanding of business processes, services and the context in which business operates. This individual will be key in translating business needs into SQL queries, export routines, and Power BI reports and dashboards. The individual must have excellent communication skills.

The primary duties and responsibilities of the role are:

  • Identify, create and facilitate process design by conducting business and systems process analysis; focusing on quality improvement and data management ensuring reliability and validity of data.
  • Facilitating business requirement walkthrough meetings and partnering with the business on functional specification reviews
  • Collaborate closely with technical teams to implement the requirements
  • Write SQL Queries that will make our data evaluation process more flexible or scalable across data sets.
  • Diving into large data sets, uncovering insights, and providing impactful recommendations.
  • Perform analysis for documenting detailed data lineage (source to target mappings).
  • Identify data control requirements, i.e. Reconciliations and validations.
  • Reviews, documents, and categorizes current or as-is state of the business process or function including creating flow charts and process models and develop portions of the desired future or to-be state of those processes.
  • Organize complex problems into simple solutions and precise business and technical requirements.
  • Core responsibility will be to truly understand data and create data lineage necessary for data strategy.
Core qualifications and requirements for this position include:

  • Data analysis: 3+ years (Required)
  • 2+ years' experience with Postgres databases.
  • Structured data analysis and data requirements development experience is required. As is strong SQL and Excel skills with the ability to learn other analytics tools, and experience documenting data and business process flows.
  • 1 or more years of work experience in the insurance or relevant industry preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Business, Computer Science, mathematics, and statistics. Please note four additional years of related work experience with data analysis beyond the minimum experience required above may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Familiarity with Agile and Scrum methodologies is preferred.
  • Prior experience with database and model design is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate complex information to others in a way they can understand.
