Desktop Support Technician

job summary:
Our client in San Antonio, Tx is looking to fill a 3-6 month contract to hire position for a desktop technician. The position is M-F 8AM-5PM, w/ some afterhours support, as needed.

PURPOSE:

- Desk side support - provides all maintenance and support of the company's desktop and laptop assets. This includes, troubleshooting device conflicts, resolving connectivity issues and application issues in a Windows XP, 7 and Windows 10 operating systems / Microsoft Active Directory environment.

- Establish a working relationship and understanding of dedicated business support areas to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with clients and management.

- Develop, work through, and complete small projects as well as document processes and procedures according to corporate standards.

- Become basic backup to local Business System Administrator

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

- Support local and remote networks. Monitor and maintain software and hardware to allow users to most efficiently perform their duties. Handle emergency telephone calls 24x7.

- Support local and remote laptop users. Utilize knowledge of hardware and software to best support each user throughout the world and give them the tools needed to best perform their job.

- Provide technical assistance to computer system users. Answer questions and resolve computer problems for clients in person, via telephone or from remote location. Provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, operating systems and various supported software packages.

- Plan and coordinate computer operations activities to meet published schedules per approved customer service levels. Monitor and control electronic computer and peripheral electronic data processing equipment.

- Maintain network and PC hardware and software. Monitor network to ensure network availability to all system users and perform necessary maintenance to support network availability.

- Assist in Installation, configuration, development, and maintenance of the local area networks, both hardware and software. Configure new/upgraded desktop and laptop computer units.

- Assist with the maintenance of the Active Directory environment.

- Enter and process help desk tickets using the online tracking system.

Education: AA in IT related discipline required, Bachelor's degree preferred.

- Experience: 2-4 plus years of experience as a hands-on Desktop Support Technician working in an enterprise class environment with desktop and laptop computers running Microsoft products.

- Skills: Effective written communications, self-directed, logical planning ability, great interpersonal skills, previous team environment experience.

- Special Knowledge: Network operating systems and topologies, Microsoft Products, Laptop configurations. Microsoft certifications preferred.
